Job Description
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
- Under general supervision, performs inspections and maintenance of Fire Alarm and suppression systems for compliance with district policies/procedures and local, state, and federal regulations and standards to ensure the environmental health and safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Provides guidance and consultation to contractors, and other technical personnel regarding Fire Alarm and suppression systems, fire extinguishers, fire safety inspections, and other related issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution
- Valid Texas driver's license and satisfactory driving record
- Texas State Fire Alarm Technicians license required
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and protocols
- Experience in testing, maintenance and service of Fire Alarm systems
- Factory training and/or NICET certification, preferred
- Five years in Fire Alarm system experience or installation
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain the automatic Fire Alarm and sprinkler systems
- Operate, test, and/or repair Fire Alarm and suppression systems
- Detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel
- Perform safety inspections on Fire Alarm and suppression systems, and ensuring compliance with NFPA, OSHA, and other related safety standards
- Relate technical data and NFPA standards to contractor and oversee contractor work related to Fire Alarm and suppression systems
- Read and interpret blue prints and shop drawings related to Fire Alarm and suppression systems
- Provide operational guidance and leadership to technical staff in area of specialty
- Communicate technical information to contractors, clients, and non-technical personnel
- Investigate and analyze information to draw conclusions
- Stay current on the technology developments/trends in area of expertise
- Perform periodic reviews of fire extinguishers for proper operation and maintenance. Coordinate maintenance and repairs with assigned vendor
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures
- Assist in ensuring that equipment is in safe operating condition
- Respond to emergency calls at anytime
EQUIPMENT USED:
- Hand and power tools; pipe bender; meters, etc.
- Light truck or van.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work may involve a flexible schedule based on work load, and task schedules
- Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying
- Exposure to extreme temperatures inside and outside, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises
- Frequent district wide travel
