About the Role
This role reports to the Branch Manager and is located in Austin, TX. AFS is looking for a Fire Alarm Department Manager for immediate opportunities in Austin, TX. The preferred candidate will have Fire Alarm Departmental Manager background in the Fire Alarm industry for multi-family buildings, commercial, and residential clients.
What you’ll do (day to day)
- Hire and terminate all personnel. Review all field employees at least annually. In cases where disciplinary action is required, suspensions and terminations are to be coordinated with the Branch Manager with appropriate documentation entered in personnel files.
- Manager will be responsible for all budgeting, P&L and all areas of profitability for the department.
- Reconciles misappropriated job costs on the WIP report.
- Review employee time sheets for accuracy. See that they are submitted on a timely basis.
- See that progress reports are completed and turned in weekly by foremen.
- Price repair, inspection, service, and day work projects.
- Ensures that personnel respond to calls.
- Ensure that all field employees understand Company’s safety policies. Ensure that safety toolbox talks are occurring at regular intervals and that, in conjunction with the Branch Manager that required safety training is completed.
- Schedule all field activities, using appropriate manpower planning tools. Assists when problems are encountered.
- Purchase or rent all equipment needed for each job and specific need.
- Get all material, plans, and information to service personnel in charge before the job starts.
- Visit job sites regularly and track design and labor actual costs to estimated costs. Communicate effectively between design and field teams.
- Follow up on punch-lists and make sure the customer signs off on them when completed.
- Ensure that trucks are serviced regularly, and a log turned in on a monthly basis. Service tickets are required to keep up with why and how trucks are being serviced. Vehicle mileage should be compared to service records.
Required Education and Experience
- Minimum of 5 -10+ years of Fire Alarm - related experience.
- Ability to motivate field teams to meet and exceed project schedules.
- Possesses strong leadership and communication skills.
- General MS Office skills – Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record.
- Excellent communicator, self-motivated individual with great organizational skills.
- Must be willing to travel as required to project field locations.
- Decision making ability and leadership skills.
- Time management and organization skills.
- Texas Alarm Planning Superintendent (APS)/ NICET III is a plus.
- Technical understanding of Fire Alarm Design to include networking of systems.
- Normal work hours are Monday – Friday from 7:00AM – 4:00PM.
