Under general direction, the Fire Administrative Chief supports and assists the Fire Operations Division in planning, organizing and managing the work activities of the Fire Department, including fire suppression, special events, and other projects as assigned.
The Clearwater Fire Department is seeking a highly responsible administrative, technical and professional manager to assist the Fire Operations Division in planning, organizing and managing the work activities of the Fire Department, including fire suppression, special events, and other projects as assigned.
Vacancy could be filled on a standard five-day workweek, OR an assigned 24-hour shift schedule, OR a combination of the two.
Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Formulates or assists in formulating policies and standard operating procedures applicable to the assigned work unit.
Conducts interviews and makes recommendations regarding the suitability of new hire candidates.
Initiates or review performance evaluations of assigned staff.
Initiates and makes recommendations regarding disciplinary action, or reviews proposed disciplinary actions recommended by subordinate supervisors to ensure fairness, consistency, and conformance with Standard Operating Procedures and applicable rules and regulations.
Periodically inspects personnel for grooming, appearance, proficiency, readiness, and proper record keeping/documentation.
Investigates vehicle accidents and personal injuries, and takes corrective action if needed.
Supervises budget preparation for assigned area and analyzes data for budget projections.
Establishes goals, objectives and priorities for the Division. Participates in planning and organizing activities necessary to effectively manage fire and rescue activities within assigned area of responsibility.
Participates with City management in preparation for collective bargaining negotiations and in the administration of labor contracts and agreements resulting from the collective bargaining process.
Manages, coordinates, and directs special events.
Prepares and maintains detailed records as required.
Participates in the department's physical fitness program.
Addresses citizen groups.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver's license is required.
State of Florida Firefighter Certification is required.
State of Florida EMT certification is required (State of Florida Paramedic certification is preferred).
Must be able to pass physical examination to meet established health standards.
Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree in Fire Science, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field (Bachelor's Degree preferred) AND twelve (12) years of progressively responsible fire service experience including six (6) years in a supervisory capacity; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
