Team Leader

The Green Lady, Inc. is an established Fine Gardening company providing meticulously detailed maintenance & design services to private coastal estate properties in Southern RI & CT for 20 years.

Full Job Description:

We are seeking motivated individuals for this Long term career employment opportunity .
Individuals that take pride in their work, have professional team experience and a passion for horticulture. A Team Leader will be expected to aid and assist The Green Lady's owner in the management & task delegation of staff fine gardeners, clients as well as collaborating onsite crew interactions, upkeep and care of tools, equipment, company vehicles and nursery stock material.
Qualified candidates will be expected to carry out daily general maintenance activities aside fellow crew members such as planting, weeding, watering, pruning, fertilization, mulch & compost applications, perennial & annual plant care in various landscape settings.

Required Qualifications:

- Valid, Clear, drivers license.

- Must reliably commute daily to our location (zip 02832), transportation to and from jobsite locations in company vehicles.

- Arrive to work promptly on time, if not ahead of time & prepared for the days weather & tasks.

- Must be available & flexible for extended work hours at the heights of the busy season - The month of May being critical.

- Background check.

- At least 4 years of professional horticultural experience, 2 of those years preferably managerial.

- Resume must be submitted with 3 references along with a cover letter detailing your experience and what you can contribute to our existing team.

- Proficiency in plant identification & care, advanced pruning techniques and PHC.

Essential duties:

- Pre-Monday morning meeting for weeks priorities and building an efficient schedule.

- Daily morning review of assignments & scheduling changes with owner and onsite task delegation as needed to fellow crew members. Daily day's end review of tasks completed or not completed so owner can adjust and schedule return and future visits accordingly.

- Assignment of days tasks to gardeners best suited for those tasks according to skill sets and time efficiency.

- Carry out, address & correct others as needed to maintain company procedures and protocols as outlined within the company handbook regarding client's properties, company tools, trucks, equipment etc.

- Ensure all priority tasks are completed and logged daily for themselves & team members.

- Hold self and team accountable for achieving daily project goals.

- Address and manage any conflicts amongst crew that might arise, bringing any pertinent concerns to owner.

- Manage onsite nursery for watering & care. Manage company trucks & shop for cleanliness.
- Manage minor tool maintenance.

Skills & Qualifications:

- Self motivated, reliable, highly organized, confident, creative, positive individual with a strong work ethic. Should possess effective communication skills, work efficiently either alone or with other team members.

- Personality traits consistent of a natural leader, able to adapt to daily schedule changes, able to make decisions easily and quickly.

- Understand the day ends with the job completed and adjust the pace of work for themselves and others accordingly.

- Must be a team player with enthusiasm for horticulture. Must treat others with mutual respect, exhibit the ability to both give and take instruction, collaborate with others and instruct, support and assist other team members in such a manner that work relationships are improved and morale increased.

- Must be capable of providing the level of our companies, detailed, clean, meticulous work and take pride in their accomplishment of it.

- Must provide excellent customer service and interaction with clientele occasionally.

Essential physical requirements:

- Must be physically fit, in good health and able to lift 40-50lbs regularly.

- Must be aware and capable of being on your feet 75%-90% of the work day in multiple various positions daily such as, but not limited to:

  • Walking, standing, stooping, squatting, kneeling, shoveling.
  • Moving up and down slopes, stairs, ladders, uneven ground, slippery surfaces, boulder retainging walls, bluestone decking.
  • Regularly climbing in and out of truck beds 3-4' of the ground.
  • Reaching above shoulder height with heavy objects, pruning above shoulders for extended time periods.
  • Maintain grip and grasp on various hand tools for extended time periods.
  • - Work outdoors in variable weather conditions: Light rain, various temperatures of heat & humidity, wind, cold.

Benefits & Compensation:

  • Full time, Seasonal Salary position 40-50 hours per week. With the possibility of more at peak season.
  • Wage based on prior managerial and horticulture experience, abilities & references.
  • Starting salary $900-$1200/wk.
  • Long term employment opportunity.
  • Seasonal position - Typically March 15th - December 15th - Weather dictated.
