Horizon Health is a Critical Access, Rural Health Facility comprised of 25-inpatient beds located in Paris, IL & a multitude of outpatient clinic settings including Family Practice and Specialty Clinics in Paris and surrounding cities. Position Summary:
The patient account specialist is responsible for handling numerous issues related to patient billing questions of any kind. Collects and posts patient payments and adjustments. Ensures correct accounts are credited. Interacts with all departments, patients, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner. Adheres to patient confidentiality per policy.
Essential Functions:
- Assist patients with billing concerns; receive and post patient payments; identify patient overpayments and process refunds; identify and apply discount corrections; perform third party collection procedures; screen financial assistance paperwork before submitting to the coordinator.
- Maintain Medicare bad debt logs; maintain bankruptcy files and post adjustments as needed; review deceased accounts for appropriate balance adjustments; review address issues and update patient information as needed; manage self-pay and pre-pay worklists and various other reports as needed; perform various month end tasks.
- Serve as a backup for maintaining clinic petty cash and reimburse staff when needed; report any out of balances.
- Attend weekly and monthly meetings to discuss ongoing issues; attend various webinars and training when needed; consult and troubleshoot errors related to self-pay workflows; participate in projects as assigned.

Position Requirements:
- High school graduate.
- Prior office experience preferred
- Excel background
- Good oral and written communication skills; computer literate
- Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with stressful situations
