Position Overview:

As a Financial Counselor (FC) Supervisor, at Cayuga Medical Center, you are responsible for providing oversight to the Financial Counsels to ensure the Revenue Cycle goals are met regarding, scheduling appointments for planned surgeries and planned admissions to ensure all aspects of insurance approval have been met. The Financial Counselor Supervisor will also ensure that the patient/guarantor is informed of all financial liabilities and that the pertinent documentation is updated into the appropriate systems. The position requires integral communication with patients, insurance companies, department administrators, physicians, and other departmental staff to ensure the ideal patient experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Review authorization request trends to recommend process improvement
  • Perform quality checks to ensure perform goals are met. (Processing guideless and metrics)
  • Provide scheduled feedback to team and assist to help remove barriers
  • Analysis of report data including identification of root cause for escalation to the CHS Director
  • Monitor worklist volumes to ensure management of workflow.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Financial Counselors and internal and external customers, to include but not limited to, Revenue Cycle team member, Utilization management, Health Information, Infrastructure Management and all Clinical area
  • Assist team with the processing of FC functions/job duties (when required), which includes researching and reviewing payer guidelines, obtaining authorizations, and issuing with supporting documentation.
  • Identifies errors/discrepancies with the authorization request and FC packets.
  • Successfully adhere and execute financial policies and processes, act with integrity, good judgment, take initiative and pro-actively solve problems
  • Exhibits expertise in the use of all registration systems, electronic verification tools and Web based resources.
  • Provided oversight with alternative payment process for uninsured patients, to include but not limited to: Assisting FC to identify payment source
    • Collect down payment and establish plan payment
    • Work with Surgical Services to reschedule any uninsured patients until payment source, or payment plan, is established
    • Medicaid
    • CMC Financial Assistance Program
  • Manage the following programs:
  • Lens Program for cataract surgeries
  • Cosmetic Surgeries
  • Provide oversight to FC as it related to the patient estimates and the collections of estimated balances for new and established patients, including proper completion of Good Faith Estimate form.
  • Demonstrates a positive and professional approach and communicates effectively with customers and team members at all times.
  • Maintains flexibility in work schedule availability that allows department to change/modify work schedule to meet departmental needs.
  • Meets federal, state and hospital requirements related to compliance issues.
  • Attends and participates in department staff meetings and attends other meetings as assigned
  • Process disciplinary actions in accordance with the established policies at CHS
  • Other job-specific duties as assigned

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (and two (2) year of relevant supervisory experience)
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, an Associate's degree (and four (4) year of relevant supervisory experience) or a HS diploma (or equivalent) with eight (8) years of relevant supervisory experience

Experience:

  • Four (4) years' experience of healthcare experience working for a health plan, physician practice, surgery center or hospital in a business capacity required.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel.
  • Experience in data processing, hospital registration, insurance verification, insurance pre-certification / authorization with a healthcare provider or insurance company required
  • Three (3 )years of supervisory or training experience (preferred)

Physical Requirements:

Lifting up to 20 pounds, standing or sitting for extended periods, as well as repetitive use of hands and fingers.
