NRDC is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our people helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act and many of the implementing regulations. NRDC is seeking a Financial Analyst to work with the Financial Planning & Analysis team in our New York office.


Position Summary
The FP&A team is part of the Accounting and Finance Department, which reports to the Chief Financial Officer. The team plays an integral role in institutional budgeting, reporting and various financial analysis. The team also partners closely with the CFO on the overall strategy and management of the finance organization, including managing partnerships with internal stakeholders and leading large-scale, cross-functional strategic initiatives that support the long-term financial sustainability of the organization.

Annual Budget and Reforecast Process 

  • Support the annual budget and reforecast processes, including preparing and collecting budget and forecast templates, partnering with budget owners, and managing data inputs into financial systems. 
  • Manage approved budget adjustments and reforecast information in financial systems, ensuring that all changes are accurate and processed on a timely basis, and flow correctly to end user systems. 
  • Prepare and disseminate timely and accurate information to functional budget owners.

Financial Reporting 

  • Assist with generating monthly and quarterly financial performance reports and budget reports for various functional budget owners, Senior Leadership, the Finance Committee, and the Board. 
  • Develop quarterly Budget vs. Actual reports and provide insightful variance analysis and commentary.
  • Analyze historical performance data and create trend analysis.

Budget Committee Support

  • Maintain, capture, and track budget committee requests, decisions, and supporting documentation throughout the year. 
  • Ensure approved budget changes are tracked properly and captured across all relevant financial systems.

Ad-Hoc Projects and Process Improvement 

  • Manage and complete ad-hoc requests and inquiries as assigned from manager or from other stakeholders.
  • Support a variety of other ad hoc analysis and reporting.
  • Manage FP&A standard operating procedures and process documentation.
  • Participate in projects and initiatives led by senior members of the Accounting & Finance department.

Education & Experience

  • BA/BS degree required, preferably in a business or finance related field.
  • Advanced degree in a business or finance related field a plus, including MBA, CPA, CMA, or CFA.
  • Certified Corporate FP&A Professional (FPAC) a plus.
  • 1-3 years of finance experience required, preferably within a corporate finance or FP&A role.

Skills, Abilities, Competencies

  • Advanced Excel skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in the use of financial management software and databases (including GL, ERP, and Planning systems) desired, with experience in Workday Adaptive and MS Dynamics a plus.
  • Proficiency in the use of BI software desired, with experience in Power BI or Tableau a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to organize, cleanse and analyze large sets of data from multiple data sources to identify trends and insights.
  • Strong attention to detail is essential.
  • Autonomous, self-starter with the ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-team environment, with excellent interpersonal and relational skills. 
  • Exceptional communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changes well, including changes to operational processes and new systems / platforms.

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. Internal equity will be reviewed and considered to determine a final offer. For this position, the salary range is $61,000 to $70,000.

 

Our offices are open and we are operating in a hybrid model. We offer NRDCers flexibility, and we ask them to come into the office and spend meaningful time there in collaboration with their colleagues. We call this purposeful presence.
