The Office of Budget and Planning is made up of four units that manage budget and planning efforts, provide institutional research, and support university Capital and Debt planning efforts for the University of New England. We provide leadership in financial planning and analysis, and our professional staff works to ensure UNE's long-term financial stability.
The Financial Analyst is an integral member of the team that assists with University Budgeting efforts to help develop and manage university budgets for Board of Trustee and university administrator approval in alignment with annual and long-range strategic planning. In addition, this position helps to support university leadership and campus strategic planning efforts by providing timely and accurate analysis to help inform sound decision-making.

Responsibilities
  • Assists in the preparation of operating budgets, revenue and expense projections, final reports, and other specialized financial reports and analyses.
  • Assist various units in interpreting budget reports, analyzing data, and assisting units in their expense projections.
  • Prepare comparative and historical analysis of required financial metrics in support of the annual budget planning process.
  • Provides support to the senior budget analyst in the development, implementation, and management of the University's operating and capital budgets.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of budget reports.
  • Assist in analyzing revenue and expense projection and other resource implications of proposed academic programs, changes to existing programs or university initiatives.
  • Participate in budget and resource analysis to identify inconsistencies or significant findings.
  • Develop and maintain written departmental procedures, training guides and information.
  • Perform ad hoc research assignments, and prepare focused analysis as directed.
  • Assist with financial reporting system upgrades and report development.
  • Compile and analyze data for monthly budget reporting.
  • Support and provide occasional training to University department budget support staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a related field or at least two years of relevant experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired.
  • Ability to comprehend and prepare statistical and other data for presentation.
  • Advanced Excel spreadsheet software skills to quantify and analyze financial reports, comparisons, impacts and/or projections.
  • Ability to analyze and identify financial data patterns and inconsistencies for projections and compliance with approved budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Experience working on projects following guidelines and timelines established by supervisor.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
