Financial Aid Counselor
Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid
Purpose of the job:
Assist students and their families as they apply for Financial Aid and scholarships.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Counsel students and their families regarding Financial Aid eligibility and scholarships, and their rights and responsibilities associated with those programs.
- Assist students who are completing scholarship appeal forms, and track appeals from start to finish.
- Assist students who are inquiring / applying for special circumstances consideration and process those appeals.
- Mange scholarship posting as departments award scholarships to students.
- Assist with the distribution of information on various Financial Aid programs available to students.
- Conduct Financial Aid presentations on campus and occasionally off campus (i.e., high schools.)
- Provide support to the other Financial Aid professionals and promote a cross-trained student-centered atmosphere.
- Assist other university offices to meet the needs of ABSN students and families efficiently and effectively.
Other duties and responsibilities:
- Perform all other duties as required and assigned.
Knowledge and skills required:
- Minimum of Bachelor's Degree
- Prior Financial Aid work experience
- Working knowledge of the Financial Aid application process and various federal and state Financial Aid programs.
- Knowledge of awarding procedures, creating budgets, understanding annual and aggregate loan eligibility.
- Familiarity of current issues affecting the Financial Aid and scholarship profession
- Demonstrated exceptional mathematical ability and public relations skills
Working conditions:
- May be required to work weekend/evening hours (during peak periods).
- Significant amounts of personal, phone, and electronic interaction with others.
- When workload demands, individuals will be expected to work the necessary hours to get the job done.
- Physical capabilities for normal office environment required.
- Limited travel.
- Non-smoking environment
