Job Description:
Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads - both students and employers - for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC's institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
The Financial Aid Awarding Specialist will provide Financial Aid Awarding assistance to the Associate Director of Financial Aid for the following funds: Get a Skill, Get a Job and Get Ahead (G3), Re-Employing Virginians funding, Learn, Explore, Accelerate, Preserve funding, Gateway funding as well as any additional new federal or state funding sources. This position will also support the college's Central Financial Aid activities and operations as needed and will analyze Financial Aid student awards as well as prepare daily/weekly reports.
This is a restricted funded position.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Skill in preparing of Financial Aid specific reports using Excel.
• Knowledge of federal and state educational Financial Aid programs; ability to interpret student Financial Aid reports.
• Ability to develop, collect, analyze, and interpret statistical and other related Financial Aid data and reports to manage student accounts, and communicate the information to students, parents, faculty, staff, etc.
• Ability to collaborate with campus-level constituents and departments.
• Demonstrated understanding of and skilled with navigating a complex student information system and proficient with other information technology applications.
• Knowledge of general accounting procedures including performing reconciliation's; project management skills to meet deadlines and complete work; knowledge of effective problem-solving techniques.
• Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication and customer relations skills to interact with diverse populations.
• Ability to organize and demonstrated the ability to multi-task (manage multiple priorities) and perform other office-related functions.
• Ability to promote collaboration and work as a team member in complex processes and an intensive student-centered environment.
• Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
• Knowledge of Federal and State Financial Aid regulations.
• Experience in a high-volume customer service environment in higher education.
• Experience working and interacting with diverse populations.
• The position necessitates working some evenings and some occasional weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge and experience with PeopleSoft SIS software and EAB Navigate
