Job Summary
The Finance Specialist assists the Controller and the Senior Accountant in the timely and accurate preparation of all financial statements, prepares bank and balance sheet account reconciliations, distribute periodic financial reports, and process payroll checks as needed.
Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Preparation and data entry of various journal entries.
- Assists in monthly financial statement preparation in Great Plains.
- Prints and distributes final financial statements to internal management.
- Answer questions managers may have regarding reports.
- Distributes other internal financial reports to management.
- Assists with preparation of ad-hoc financial report requests.
- Assembles all issued financial statements, trial balance reports, and general ledger reports in Audit Folder.
- Must be able to process manual checks for terminated employees and corrections. Processes the Bi-Weekly payroll and assists with other payroll duties in the absence of the Payroll Specialist.
- Responsible for preparing other monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Responsible for assisting Finance team with problem solving and transaction corrections.
- Assist with preparation and filing requirements of government agencies, i.e., United States Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, United States Housing and Urban Development (HUD), California State Board of Equalization, San Diego County, etc.
- Assist in preparation of PBC (provided by client) work papers for annual audit(s) and tax return.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Education
- BA/BS degree required, with an emphasis in Accounting or related field preferred.
- At least three years of work experience in a computerized accounting office and a strong foundation in general ledger accounting. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Great Plains accounting software experience preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent computer and organizational skills required.
- Able to establish and maintain effective relationships with consumers, co-workers, families, volunteers, vendors, and the public.
- Possesses a high degree of patience and the ability to tolerate frustrating situations.
- Able to multi-task and manage work time efficiently.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee may frequently move to interact with fellow employees and/or clients. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
