Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), Controller Division, has an exciting opportunity for an experienced audit or compliance professional. The Finance Compliance Specialist 3 will be a member of the Controller Division Financial Compliance Group, will report to the Financial Compliance Group Leader and will be responsible for a wide range of financial internal control and compliance activities. The Financial Compliance Group is responsible for ensuring financial compliance with DOE Orders and Directives, the Prime Contract, Financial Managers Financial Integrity Act, OMB Circular A-123, LANL policies and procedures, and laws and regulations.
The Financial Compliance Specialist 3 will be performing internal control evaluations, financial assessments, providing recommendations and corrective action plans, and assisting internal/external auditors with financial data requests. The position may also perform other duties as assigned. The position interfaces with all levels of senior management and staff at the Laboratory and external customers.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Technical Knowledge
Professional work experience in internal auditing, public accounting, compliance or similar experience. Demonstrated experience in performing audits, assessments, or financial analyses and preparing applicable reports. Experience in researching, interpreting and applying financial policies and procedures.
Knowledge and experience interpreting and applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to business and accounting practices, with a focus on internal controls; Experience identifying areas for improvement, including improving internal controls or business process efficiencies.
Experience and knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Customer Service, Organization, Teamwork and Dependability
Excellent organizational skills with proven ability to independently establish priorities, manage projects, and execute business and financial assignments. Demonstrated experience in communicating and presenting detailed financial information in an understandable manner; excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively individually and within a team with stringent deadlines, interruptions and changing priorities with a high degree of accuracy and accountability. Demonstrated experience effectively interacting with customers, staff, and stakeholders.
Education/Experience:
Position requires a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field and 8 years of experience; or the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:

  • Professional certifications (CPA, CIA, CISA, or CFE, etc.) are preferred.
  • Experience with OMB A-123, COSO, GAO Internal Control Standards for the Federal Government or Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Experience performing data analytics and familiarity with ACL.
  • Experience working with Oracle Enterprise Business System and MicroStrategy.

Location: This position will be part of the Laboratory's Telework Program and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.
