Single-attorney juvenile dependency firm seeks organized and proactive individual for a
part-time clerk assistant to start in early April.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent work experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Mac software.
- Laptop, Driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
Desired qualifications:
- An interest in juvenile dependency law or social work.
- Pre-law, current law student or law school graduate.
- Proficiency in interacting productively with clients in crisis or facing challenges, which may include substance abuse, domestic violence, homelessness, and/or mental health issues.
Primary tasks:
- Managing paper and electronic documents for case files.
- Keeping client contact information, case files, and databases updated at all times.
Potential further tasks:
- Attending citizen review board hearings and advocating for clients therein.
- Answering calls and emails.
- Interacting with current clients, other attorneys, caseworkers, and court staff in person, over the phone, by email, and through postal mail.
The successful candidate will be:
- Self-motivated, able to complete numerous tasks with little to no prompting or direction.
- Highly organized and detail oriented, able to do things thoroughly and correctly the first time while still double-checking the work.
- Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Friendly, compassionate, and mature.
- Willing to ask questions and learn from mistakes.
- Looking to join a slightly eccentric often casual office where a shared love of cat memes and nerdy fandom lore is always appreciated.
