Job description

A Field Service Technician (FST) is primarily responsible for the installation, operation, repair, removal, and maintenance of company tools and other oilfield equipment.
Field Service Technician I
Field Service Technician I
o Tier 1 - This is the entry level FST, single product line and considered an SSE
o Tier 2- Single product line, considered a "helper only" on location, could be non SSE
o Tier 3- Single product line, has CDL, considered a "helper only" on location, and could be non SSE.
Field Service Technician II
o Tier 1- Proficient in one or more job types in a single product line, could still be an SSE
o Tier 2 - Proficient in all job types in a single product line, can run a shift by themselves
o Tier 3 - Proficient in all job types and can rebuild all equipment in a single product line; is considered a trainer
Field Service Technician III
o Tier 1 - Proficient in 2 product lines and can run a shift by themselves
o Tier 2 - Proficient in 2 product lines, can run a shift by themselves and is considered a trainer in both product lines
o Tier 3 - Proficient in 3 or more product lines, can run and rebuild all equipment and is considered a trainer in all
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Abides by all Oil States Energy Services, LLC Safety and Operational Policies and Procedures, and abide by all DOT requirements. Must understand and comply with all safety rules and company policies.
•Must abide by all Customer Safety policies and procedures while on customers job site.
•Installs, repairs, removes and maintains various company tools and equipment, and exhibit proficiency within a six month period. •Drives and operates mobile crane truck, pickup and trailer to deliver tools over state lines up to 70% of the time depending on district location, and exhibit proficiency within a six month period
•Drives company vehicle on a daily basis in a safe manner, observing all company and government regulations, between each district and off site locations at scheduled time.
•Regularly inspects company equipment for preventative maintenance purposes. Assures proper operation, maintenance, applications and document repairs and/or damages of company equipment in a timely manner.
•Completes all paperwork on a daily basis in a timely manner as required by company and supervisor, including preparation and timely submission of accurate and thorough completion of job reports, driving logs, trip reports and call sheets.
•Performs maintenance and reports on all company vehicles, and/or company owned and rental equipment.
•May oversee job site services and provide direction to onsite labor when needed.
•Assists in job action planning with customer on location.
•Ensures proper delivery of product.
•Assists in the shop and make deliveries when available.
•Assists in pre-job safety meetings to include review of job safety analysis (JSA) process.
•Maintains open lines of communication with District Manager and Operations District before, during and after job completion. Ensures management is appropriately informed of area activities and attends meetings as required.
•Maintains open lines of communication with various customers regarding job updates, problems, tool procedures, and hazards on job site locations.
•Learn SOP's and work instructions per respective product line.
•Learn hand signals for job site (crane operation and vehicles).
•Performs other duties as assigned.
SPECIALIZED DUTIES BY PRODUCT LINE:
To be considered proficient in a product line must complete all three steps listed in the respective product line indicated below.
Wireline
Step One (6 months minimum):
o Clean, paint and perform preventative maintenance on pressure control equipment to include flanges, wireline valves, pump-in subs, tool trap, riser, grease head and grease injection systems in the shop.
o Learn and assist in hydrostatic testing of the equipment.
o Learn and assist with open and/or cased hole 5k & 10K pressure control equipment at or on the wellhead.
o Learn the operation procedures, processes and materials used by the various service companies on location.
o Learn to communicate with service company and oil company personnel.
o Make deliveries to well site and ensure ticket is signed.
Step Two (6 months minimum):
o Complete Well Pressure Control Program.
o Operates open hole and/or cased hole 5K and 10K pressure control equipment at or on the wellhead.
o Learn 15K pressure control o Direct communication with managers, Service Company and Oil Company personnel to ensure zero problems with jobs. o Ensures all required field documents are completed and signed.
o Training and mentoring.
Step Three (18 months minimum):
o Operates open hole and/or cased hole 5k, 10k and 15k pressure control equipment at or on the wellhead without supervision.
o Learn to operate open and/or cased hole 20k pressure control equipment at or on the wellhead when available in district.
o Must have expert knowledge of the wireline operations and be able to troubleshoot, such as repairing a stranded cable.
Isolation
Step One (6 months minimum):
o Learn to operate man basket at job site locations.
o Learn proper positioning of equipment such as a crane truck on job site (spotting).
o Administrative duties in regard to DOT logs, trip reports, call sheets, etc.
o Learn to inspect all equipment and units assigned.
o Learn testing, greasing, gauging and maintaining tools and valves assigned.
o Learn flange sizes, bolt sizes and ring gaskets.
o Learn proper storage of all tools, flanges ensuring all is secured properly.
o Learn calculations, measurements. o Learn proper maintenance of assigned tools and vehicles.
Step Two (6 months minimum):
o Properly complete a service order/field ticket.
o Learn Field Service Inspection Manual.
o Operate a crane and obtain the NCCO certification.
o Learn procedures for a screen-out environment.
o Learn operations of hydraulic accumulator.
o Learn calculations for hydraulic force.
o Direct and oversee less experienced team member.
o Assist in training and mentoring FST's in step one or two.
o Conduct on-site safety meetings.
o Direct communication with managers, Service Company and Company Man and to ensure zero problems with jobs.
o Learn the functions of the other service companies at jobsite as they use our tool.
o Accurately complete all required documentation.
Step Three (18 months minimum):
o Must be able to complete a job order sheet per the customer job request
o Must be able to analyze, run and manage all aspects of a job.to include troubleshooting complex jobs.
o Knowledge and ability to identify multiple applications through the isolation tool.
o Proficient in tubing wellhead isolation, casing wellhead isolation, stage frac tool, coil tubing frac head and plug valve.
o Must have working Knowledge of Engineer's Handbook.
o Proficiently run up 20,000 lb wellhead isolation tool. o Proficient in spacing and measuring dual sized applications.
o Complete isolation valve sign-off sheet.
o Audit DOT logs, trip reports, call sheets etc. of technicians assigned to job.
o Inspection of all equipment and units assigned.
o Proper maintenance of assigned tools and vehicles.
o Direct and oversee less experienced team members.
o Accurately complete all required documentation.
o Training and mentor FST's in step one and two.
o High job proficiency.
Thru Tubing
Step One (6 months minimum):
o Learn operations of open and closed 5k pressure control equipment at or on the wellhead.
o Learn and successfully figure downhole calculations to include Hydrostatic pressures and buoyancy.
o Learn coil tubing operations.
o Learn and successfully read weight indicators.
o Basic knowledge of downhole tools (back pressure valves, disconnects, fishing tools & motors) and ability to rebuild if necessary.
o Complete basic paperwork which includes Field ticket, O.D. and I.D sheets, daily logs, motor tracking sheets and hot shot paperwork.
o Inventory tools on location and track which tool is being used in wellbore on a daily basis o Learn different tool applications. o Direct communication with managers, Service Company and Company personnel to provide well site updates as required.
Step Two (6 months minimum):
o Learn operations of open and closed 5k - 15K pressure control equipment at or on the wellhead.
o Knowledge of Coil Tubing operations and learn various workover rig applications to include pipe tally & swivel.
o Evaluate well environment to determine the need and use of equipment required to effectively and efficiently perform job.
o Supervise and provide technical support to the crew and client at the well site.
o Provide instruction on proper procedures to perform thru tubing operations.
o Assist in training and mentoring of FST's in step one and two.
o Continually be aware of new tools and applications in the industry to enhance our services.
Step Three (18 months minimum):
o Must have expert knowledge of the downhole operation and be able to do complex downhole calculations.
o Provide complex written detailed procedures to meet customer's needs.
o Assist and act in the Manager's role as needed.
o Capable of handling hazardous well control blown out situations.
o Perform jobs on coil tubing, snubbing and rig operations.
o Training and mentoring FST's in step one and two.
o Perform "lunch and learns" with clients and team members on product line.
o Continues to expand and apply application knowledge and expertise to include applications of increasing complexity and/or risk in Wellbore Intervention and/or other product groups.
o Knowledgeable of the various procedures, materials and options used by the various completion companies that would impact our processes.
Production Services
Step One (6 months minimum):
o Learn functions and mechanic of the equipment used in the multiple services provided in Production Services to include weco iron, lo-torq valves, gate valves, sand knockouts, debris-catchers, manual chokes, hydraulic chokes, frac support equipment, high pressure pumps and BOP's as specific to service provided to customer.
o Learn SOP processes and work instructions for the multiple services provided in the Production Services Product Line per specific district.
o Learn how to operate overhead crane, forklift and necessary hand tools.
o Complete third party Well Control program.
Step Two (6 months minimum):
o Operate the equipment used in the multiple services provided in Production Services to include weco iron, lo-torq valves, gate valves, sand knockouts, debris-catchers and manual chokes, hydraulic chokes, frac support equipment, high pressure pumps and BOP's as specific to service provided to customer with minimal supervision.
o May assist in the operation of other types of production service equipment.
o Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment in the field.
o Must have certifications to operate overhead cranes, forklifts and other necessary equipment.
o Must be able to communicate with managers, Service Company, third party monitors and company personnel on location. o Must be proficient with the various tech-fact books.
o Must be computer proficient.
o Learn the operation procedures, processes and materials used by the various service companies on location.
Step Three (18 months minimum):
o Operate the equipment used in the multiple services provided in Production Services to include weco iron, lo-torque valves, gate valves, sand knockouts, debris-catchers and manual chokes, hydraulic chokes, frac support equipment, high pressure pumps and BOP's as specific to service provided to customer without supervision.
o Training and mentoring FST's in step one and two. o Must be able to perform field calculations for specific service provided.
o Trouble shoot field issues and make decisions independently.
o Proficient to handle blowout environment.
o Direct communication with managers, Service Company, third party monitors and Company personnel on job progress, operations, etc...
o Responsible for all field documentation including field ticket signatures.
o Knowledgeable of the operation procedures, processes and materials used by the various service companies on location.
Ball Launch
Step One (6 months minimum):
o Learn to operate man basket at job site locations.
o Learn proper positioning of equipment such as a crane truck on job site (spotting).
o Administrative duties in regard to DOT logs, trip reports, call sheets, etc.
o Learn to inspect all equipment and units assigned.
o Learn testing, greasing, gauging and maintaining Ball Launcher, ball drop valves, power packs to include internal parts (i.e. rails, pucks, follower, etc).
o Learn flange sizes, bolt sizes and ring gaskets.
o Learn proper storage of all tools, flanges ensuring all is secured properly.
o Learn calibrations (calipers, etc.).
o Learn flow back process.
o Learn hydraulic choke equipment.
o Learn and successfully performs rigging-up process of unit or related equipment.
Step Two (6 months minimum):
o Properly complete a service order/field ticket.
o Ability to read and understand calibration (calipers, etc.).
o Perform flow back process.
o Operation and knowledge of hydraulic choke equipment.
o Perform greasing, gauging and maintaining Ball Launcher, ball drop valves, power packs to include internal parts (i.e. rails, pucks, follower, etc.).
o Performs rigging-up process of unit or related equipment.
o Runs the unit or related equipment.
o Accurately complete required paperwork.
o Assist in training and mentoring FST's in step one and two.
o Conduct on-site safety meetings.
o Direct communication with managers, Service Company and Company Man and to ensure zero problems with jobs.
o Learn the various procedures, materials and options used by the various downhole completion companies.
