Corteva Agriscience is seeking a Field Research Intern to participate in a 6-month internship designed to give broad based exposure on the day-to-day activities of a Research Operations Cener. The Johnston Field Research Center is a Multicrop/Multifunction center supporting many customers/stakeholders for Corteva Agriscience. You will get the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the research center's activities.
Responsibilities - What You'll Do:
You will work as part of a team in one or more of the following research areas: Precision Phenotyping, Field Nursery, Tier 3 Execution, Farm Management Operations.
- Precision Phenotyping -
- Work with a team of highly specialized individuals on the planning, execution, and evaluation of Field Research trials. The Phenotyping team ensures quality data is returned to our scientists' hands to promote high quality experimentation and data of economic importance. This team also executes on new phenotyping tools and Remote Sensing applications.
- Field Nursery Activities
- Assist team of individuals devoted to Corteva Seed Product Development. Work with plant breeders and associates in population development, evaluation, and pipeline enrichment. The nursery team works closely with all research areas providing quality material to be evaluated by JFRC groups and across several Corteva locations.
- Tier 3 Execution
- Tier 3 Execution team supports all other teams at the JFRC in logistical planning and execution of field trials and seed inventory. This group executes the planning, filling, shipping and receiving of material that moves from location to location. Individuals in Tier 3 ensure the quality and planning of Corteva Field Trials are up to the standard to ensure downstream data is as quality as possible.
- Farm Management Team
- The Farm Management Team at JFRC are a group of individuals that execute and manage 'on farm' research trials at the Johnston Field Research site. This group provides specialized equipment practices to all groups in Johnston to ensure that Corteva research sites on farm are of the highest quality and follow all Corteva and Governmental Policy.
Daily tasks that you may take part of as part of your internship include:
- Receiving and sorting incoming seed
- Sorting seed packets/clams for planting and for shipping
- Applying seed treatment
- Pollinating
- Research Plot Maintenance (Hoeing, Counting, Staking)
- Disease Inoculation and/or Insect Infestation
- Discarding Seed
- Plant Tagging
- Leaf/Plant Sampling
- Irrigation Setup and Tear Down
- Field Data Collection
- Farm equipment operation
- Drone image analysis
- Drone operation
All teams work hand in hand with each other to ensure that the JFRC can provide quality data to support our scientists to make the most informed and economical decisions.
QualificationsQualifications - What You'll Bring:
Priority will be given to students that are at least current sophomores at an accredited university. Interns can be undergraduate or graduate students.
Education focus in Agronomy, Plant Physiology, Plant Pathology, Genetics, Biology or a related field
Agricultural background beneficial
Preference will be given to student with a minimum GPA of 3.0
Must be enrolled at an accredited university at the time of internship
