We are known for our professionalism, high standards, and the ability to complete projects on time and to budget irrespective of size or type. Come and be a part of a team where you can make a difference and can contribute to the future growth of our company. We are growing our team, are looking for motivated team members to grow with us, and are accepting applications for Field & Office Engineers - 6-month Internship.

Section 1 – Project Startup

  • Drawings & Drawing Logs – uploading and maintaining current design documents is critical to the project's success. Making sure that our subcontractors and vendors have the most current information based on changes will guarantee that the building will be constructed as designed and per the client’s program.
  • Specifications – understanding the specifications is critical. Specifications inform the project team of the products and methods required for the project. Additionally, specifications define contractual obligations for the project.
  • Submittal Process – the Submittal Process is the most important process on every project. This is where the subcontractor or vendor conveys their understanding of the project to us and the design team for approval. This process is time sensitive as no product may be ordered for the project without the submittal approval and the lead time for fabrication and delivery are critical to maintaining the project schedule.
  • Requests for Information (RFI’s) – it is imperative that if anyone notices a discrepancy or questions the intent of the project documents, they request clarification. These clarifications need to be recorded as part of the contract documents and posted to the drawings and specifications to notify the project team of changes.

Section 2 – Field Management

  • Quality Control & Inspections – verifying that the work installed and materials that are delivered meet the project requirements ensures that iiCON Construction is in control of the project quality. We hold our subcontractors to a high standard and monitor their work to prevent unnecessary repairs and warranty calls.
  • Daily Journals – documenting what is happening on the project on a daily basis keeps our team on track. Additionally, this report becomes a legal document and is used to keep our clients up to speed with the status of the project.
  • Safety – everyone’s responsibility. Weekly and Monthly safety audits raise awareness and keep all workers safe. At some point during the project, you will need to have the courage to stop an activity if you don’t feel that it is being accomplished in a safe manner. Constant awareness of our surroundings is critical.
  • Scheduling – understanding how to sequence project activities and what the critical path means. When we promise a client our finish date, we need to keep this promise. Making sure materials are on the job site and all clarifications have been finalized and communicated are required to meet and exceed the schedule.

Section 3 – Preconstruction & Financials

  • Quantity Takeoff, Assemble, and presentation of an Estimate – preconstruction basics and presentation skills. Communication with vendors and subcontractors.
  • Contracts – understanding the power of the contract from iiCON’s perspective and from the subcontractor and vendor’s perspective. All we are asking in a contract is what the subcontractor or vendor promised they would do. It is our job to keep them compliant.
  • Construction Accounting – understanding how to order, code and pay for materials and services. The goal is to understand why we do this and how it benefits iiCON on future projects.
  • Project Forecasting – understanding how we are tracking the original budget is critical to our success. We need to know at all times if we are making our fee or if we have a projected loss. This affects everything from bonding, banking, and insurance costs for current and future work.

 Minimum Requirements:

Currently in sophomore or junior years of study in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or Engineering Equivalent programs of study.

Location: This position will be based in Colorado Springs and may include working on the Front Range from Denver to Pueblo.
