Summary
Responsible for all aspects of assigned metrology projects (jobs) either in-house or at customer site.
Exhibit and enforce a culture where safety is the first priority!
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
Under technical supervision, performs the following basic to moderate tasks:

  • Perform onsite and in shop measurements utilizing a variety of laser tracker and portable measurement arm brands and models.
  • Provide laser tracker measurement services on a variety of structures, mechanical systems, assemblies, components and machines across multiple industries and site locations/conditions.
  • Organize, pack, inventory and maintain all equipment to be used to complete field metrology projects.
  • Adhere to daily progress reporting and photographic documentation requirements.
  • Produce clear and understandable inspection reports that include written descriptions/cover letters, pictures, and data tables.
  • Create inspection plans and part frames typically without the aid of CAD models and occasionally without blueprints.
  • Administration of file management that conforms to company standards.
  • Ask proper questions to understand key/critical alignment features of potentially unfamiliar mechanical systems.
  • Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Communicate with field machinists to develop on the fly work process adjustments when necessary.
  • Perform portable field machine alignment.
  • Perform alignment of customer equipment.
  • Perform surveys on equipment to be repaired/machined and perform reasonable assessments.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customer contacts.
  • Describe geometric alignments effectively in written and oral formats.

Requirements:Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education

  • High school diploma or GED/HSED, required
  • Documented on the job training or 2-year technical degree, preferred
  • Coordinate Measurement Society (CMSC) Certification, preferred
  • Manufacturer provided, product specific training (Spatial Analyzer Intro/Advanced, Polyworks, Leica, Faro, etc), preferred

Experience & Skills
One to three years of progressively responsible related experience. Specifically, this position requires:

  • Proficient experience (1-3 years) operating various portable metrology instruments
  • Basic/functional understanding of metrology software usage
  • Basic knowledge and experience with GD&T
  • Proficient knowledge, understanding and ability to read and interpret assembly drawings
  • Proficient ability to read and interpret blueprints & mechanical drawings
  • Basic knowledge or experience with mechanical/workpiece fixturing
  • Proficient ability with basic and intermediary computer functions
  • Proficient ability to diagnose and solve basic software / hardware issues (ie JRE (tracker spec) files, connectivity / ipv4 settings, firewall settings, installing software/firmware updates, etc)
  • Experience with mechanical measurement equipment
  • Experience with machine alignments
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Experience in various field environments, preferred
  • Experience machining, preferred

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, work scopes, production schedules, purchase orders, maintenance instructions, digital correspondence, technical manuals and specifications and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such the fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as basic math, fractions, decimals, angles, percentages and ratios.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of specifications and information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to do the following:

  • Occasionally talk or hear
  • Frequently sit, use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls
  • Frequently stand and walk
  • Frequently climb ladders and stairs
  • Frequently stoop, kneel, bend or crouch
  • Frequently lift and/or move physical products (up to 100 lbs)
  • Occasionally use portable hand power tools (angle grinder, drill, power hammer, etc.)
  • Respirator fit testing and use may be required
  • Specific vision abilities: include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. These include: forklift traffic, overhead cranes, machining, welding, fumes, airborne particles, moving of mechanical parts and moderate noise. The work is performed indoors in a shop environment or a customer site both indoors and outdoors. Will potentially spend a significant amount of time outdoors in hot, cold, or otherwise inclement weather during part of the workweek.
Other Requirements
OSHA 10
Valid driver’s license, required
Successful completion of IPM Overhead Crane Training, required
Successful completion of IPM’s Forklift Training, required
Valid Forklift license, required
Travel Time – up to 75% (daily, overnight and weekends)
Travel Locations: jobs sites (domestic and international) and company facilities
Ability to utilize multiple mobile apps for time sheet entry, travel, expense reporting, etc

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 12 hour shift
  • 8 hour shift
  • Evening shift
  • Holidays
  • Monday to Friday
  • Overtime
  • Weekends as needed

Work Location: On the road
