FIELD INSPECTOR
Field Inspectors are responsible for documenting and measuring the Contractor’s progress for payment on road and runway projects all over Alaska.
The ideal candidate is detail oriented, organized, and motivated. Performance based position with the potential for advancement based on experience and ability. Personnel pursuing a career in Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
Duties include:
- Review plans and specifications
- Monitor Contractor’s progress and ensure work is completed in accordance with the contract
- Clearly communicating discrepancies with the Project Engineer and/or Contractor
- Perform additional inspections as requested by project PE
- Complete Inspector’s Daily Reports summarizing activities/observations.
- Ability to work 10+ hours, day shift or night shift.
MATERIALS TECHNICIAN I, II and III
Materials Technicians are responsible for performing testing on EMC Managed ADOT construction projects in accordance with published standards and EMC’s policies.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with materials, engineering, or construction experience who possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills. Performance based position with potential for advancement based on experience and certifications.
Duties include:
- Set up and calibrate testing equipment for field laboratories.
- Perform field and laboratory testing on soil, concrete and asphalt.
- Perform inspections based on experience and training.
- Monitor work procedures for compliance with applicable codes and specifications.
- Complete test reports on AKDOT approved forms.
- Prepare daily field reports summarizing activities/observation.
- Collect concrete, asphalt, and soil samples, prepare submittals and coordinate delivery to AKDOT lab.
- Travel throughout Alaska to various construction sites.
SWPPP INSPECTOR
SWPPP Inspectors are responsible for maintaining all SWPPP records and ensuring DEC/EPA compliance throughout the project duration.
The ideal candidate is detail oriented, organized, and motivated. Performance based position with the potential for advancement based on experience and certifications. Personnel pursuing a career in Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
Duties include:
- Review SWPPP for designated project.
- Understand the 2021 Alaska Construction General Permit.
- Conduct weekly inspections maintaining DEC/EPA compliance.
- Perform additional inspections as requested by project PE.
- Complete Inspector’s Daily Reports summarizing activities/observations.
- Ability to work 10+ hours, day shift or night shift.
Construction/Special Inspector I, II and III - Seasonal
Construction/Special Inspectors are responsible for performing inspections on a variety of projects including buildings, roads, utilities, and energy facilities, in accordance with IBC Chapter 17 and ACI requirements.
EMC Engineering is seeking a team-oriented individual to inspect and observe construction projects under the supervision of the Field Manager. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, with construction, engineering and/or design experience who is proficient with Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Outlook etc..), strong communication, and problem-solving skills. Performance based position with potential for advancement based on experience and certifications.
Duties include:
- Monitor projects for compliance with project specifications, drawings, and applicable codes.
- Perform field testing of soils, concrete, asphalt and other tasks associated with day-to-day construction activities.
- Prepare daily reports of observations and inspections performed on projects.
- Provide on the job training to Field Technicians.
Minimum qualifications:
- 2 years of construction related experience. Possess or be able to obtain ICC Special Inspection certifications in Soils, Spray-Applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Reinforced Concrete and Structural Steel and Bolting.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Some Duties are physically demanding and may require frequent lifting of 40 to 70 pounds.
- Ability to work 10+ hours, day shift or night shift and weekends.
FIELD TECHNICIAN I, II and III - Seasonal
Field Technicians are responsible for performing material testing on the project site in accordance with AASHTO, ACI, ASTM, ATM, and WAQTC procedures.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter, preferably with materials, engineering, or construction experience who possess strong communication, attention to details and problem-solving skills. Performance based position with potential for advancement based on experience and certifications.
Duties include:
- Perform field and laboratory testing on aggregate, soil, concrete and asphalt.
- Perform inspections based on experience and training.
- Monitor work procedures for compliance with applicable codes and specifications.
- Prepare daily field reports summarizing activities/observation, concrete testing, and density test results.
- Deliver concrete, soil, and asphalt samples to the lab.
- Travel throughout Alaska to various construction sites.

- Must have a valid driver’s license.
