WHAT WE'RE OFFERING

The Fiber Records Engineer position will help establish and maintain a working process of researching, collecting, and planning United's Fiber Records to help increase efficiencies and on-going maintenance for a rapidly growing network.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include the following, but other duties may be assigned as required:

  • Manage and maintain the overall electronic fiber assignment database.
  • Point of contact for all fiber assignment requests (new builds and maintenance).
  • Create internal splicing MOP's.
  • QA and QC all splicing as-builts and post in fiber assignment database.
  • Establish network and FTTX fiber chain connectivity within the fiber database.
  • Conduct fiber splicing audits to convert from paper to fiber assignment database.
  • Maintain fiber capacity and fiber usage reports.
  • Work closely with multiple departments and partners on fiber information requests.
  • Maintain dark fiber assignments and leases for both internal and external customers.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Understanding of FTTH, Metro-E, FTTX Network Architecture.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in related OSP, Engineering in the areas of responsibility listed above.
  • PC Skills - requires a higher understanding of reading and writing construction related prints.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Smartsheet's and Visio required.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. 
  • Comprehend and effectively explain fiber construction designs.
  • Ability to comprehend, write, and effectively explain fiber splicing schematics.
  • Ability to operate in GIS software to assist in data migration.
  • Systematic and methodical in day-to-day operations.
  • Valuable experience with customer support for both internal and external customers.
  • Experience with Federal and State Grants. 
  • Able to effectively manage multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analyze complex problems, evaluate alternatives, and make sound, well-structured recommendations.
  • Prepare and present clear and well-organized written and oral reports to Manager of Engineering, Director of Engineering and Planning, Executive Level Employees and other groups as required.
  • Use the Internet, remote communications, and other advanced tools to increase productivity and perform job functions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, superiors, vendor representatives and clients.
  • Assess the spatial needs of a United Communications department and recommend solutions.
  • Work with various skilled staff from other departments or outside agencies.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, outside agencies, and the general public.
