Fiber Optic Technician

The Fiber Technician position performs precise fusion splicing of Fiber Optic cables, preparing Fiber Optic cables for splicing by stripping, cleaning, cleaving, and organizing fibers according to industry standards. They conduct comprehensive optical testing using OTDRs, Power Meter/Light Sources, Traffic Identifiers, and VFLs to verify splice quality, cable continuity, and network performance, as well as Identifying and troubleshooting any defects or irregularities in the network.  
Job Functions:

• Duties will include general labor related to telecommunications construction as directed by the Foreman/Supervisor including, digging trenches, installing conduit, vaults, and pedestals.
• Splice Fiber Optic cables.
• Work around construction equipment such as bucket trucks and reel trailers.
• Performs site clean-up.
• Restore and landscape disturbed areas of the jobsite.
• Attend training and professional certification opportunities.
• Attend safety meetings and training.
• Follow OSHA and all other safety rules as well as related company policies at all times.
• Use all prescribed safety equipment that is required to safely do the job at hand.

Working Conditions:

• Primarily working outside in all types of weather.
• Work conditions can include working in high and low temperature environments.

Qualifications:

• Must have the ability to operate manual and mechanical equipment, as necessary.
• Ability to interpret and generate technical documentation, including splice logs, test reports, and network diagrams.
• Effective problem-solving skills to diagnose and troubleshoot network issues
• Ability to work in varying weather conditions is required.
• Ability to occasional lift, climb and working in confined spaces is required.
• Ability to operate a bucket truck in a safe manner at heights up to 60'
• Basic knowledge of AC and DC or low voltage wiring a plus.
• Construction experience a plus.
• Customer service experience a plus.
• Excellent communications skills.
• Basic knowledge of personal computing devices and routers.
• Must be able to pass a background check, drug test.

Education Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Any of the following certifications a huge plus: CFOS, CFOT and or CPCT.
• Must have a Valid Drivers license and a clean driving record, CDL a plus.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift 75 pounds.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds for extended periods.
• Ability to climb and work from ladders and rooftops.
• Ability to learn and to work with or without supervision.
