Fence Installation Helper Job Description
Fence installation Helpers install and repair all types of fence and gates using a range of hand and power tools. As a fence installation Helper you will work on wood, chain link, vinyl and other type fences. In this job you will need good practical ability in wood and metalwork. You will also need to be comfortable working with numbers and have the ability to read and follow plans. You will work hands on both indoors and outdoors.
Work Duties
As a fence installation Helper you will usually work as part of a team under the supervision of a lead installer or foreperson. You might work on, but not limited to the following:
-boundary fencing for homes and businesses
-security fencing for commercial use
-kennels, cages and other fence enclosures
You or your foreperson will review the job with the customer upon arrival to do installation. Once you have agreed on plans you will typically:
-remove the old fence if necessary
-measure and lay out the lines of the new fence according to the plan
-use hand tools to dig foundations for fence posts
-position wooden, vinyl or metal posts and install them in concrete and/or plate posts to ground
-frame and install fence materials, using a range of materials including wood, vinyl and chain link
-ensure that you always follow health and safety regulations in your work
You will work upwards of 40 hours + per week depending on the availability of work. You will be asked to work overtime and Saturday’s during peak season.
You will be required to have a driver’s license and be insurable by our auto insurance company as you will be servicing a wide geographical area. You may also be asked to pick up materials or equipment and make deliveries.
Skills and abilities
To be a fence installation helper you need:
-the ability to communicate clearly with customers
-practical skills for using hand and power tools
-ability to bend, lift, squat, stand and physically work for 8 hours per day with no restrictions
-the ability to understand and work from plans
-basic math skills for working out the amount of materials needed
-practical ability in wood and metalwork
-the ability to work as part of a team
-an awareness of health and safety issues
- must have driver's license and clean driving record
