About our Farm:
Moon Family Farm is a dryland wheat farm with a strong conservation focus. We take care of the land, the crops, the community, and each other. We continually look for ways to do things better, with less impact, while working with nature to grow the best crops we can. We are a small team of a husband and wife plus one other employee, and we need someone who is thorough, conscientious, and works well with the team we have.
About You:
You don’t need to come to us with a perfect knowledge of farming and mechanics, but you do need to be engaged and learning every day. You must be punctual, considerate of others, and capable of taking direction while also comfortable working by yourself. We have a knowledgeable team and you will learn lots with us. Bilingual in English/Spanish is a big plus.

Job Description and Balance of Tasks:
Approximately 45% repairs, maintenance and improvements. 45% field work, equipment and truck driving, 10% general labor. The exact amounts vary by season. We fix things when it’s slow so we can be in the field when we need to be.
For the mechanical work, it will be mostly in the shop or yard, sometimes in the field. Oil and fluid changes, equipment inspections, minor to medium repairs on everything from 4 wheeler to heavy trucks and equipment. We keep things running tip top to make life easier. Light to medium metal fabrication, welding and repairs. Improvements and redesigns on non-functioning components, rebuilds and reinforcements. Building and infrastructure maintenance – minor carpentry, plumbing, weatherproofing, electrical repairs. Home improvements on farm and rental houses.
In the field, work will be mostly tractor driving and spraying. Hauling water and batching and loading chemicals into sprayer. Seeding, fertilizing, chopping, tillage, operating grain wagon during harvest. Grading roads and ditches, earthwork and erosion control. Dump truck and loader work. Hauling and cleaning grain and seed. Loading and driving trucks. No CDL required for this job but must know or be willing to learn to drive manual transmissions.
For labor, once a season we pull rye and rock pick. You may be directing and/or working as part of a labor crew on larger tasks. Burning tumbleweeds and general farmstead maintenance and weed control. Filling grain orders. Lawn and yard care at farmstead. Some cattle and fencing work. The primary focus of this job is things other than labor, but it is required at times.
