Summary

Join our team as a Fare Revenue Technicianand play an essential role in our daily operations, with responsibilities that include physically driving to various sites across the Valley to collect Fare Revenue, lifting and removing fare collection containers, stocking tickets, addressing minor equipment malfunctions, and creating, preparing, reviewing, and analyzing computerized and manual reports. Under general supervision, duties will be conducted according to written and oral instructions and standard operating Fare Revenue collection procedures. Dedication and attention to detail will ensure the reliable functioning of our transit system and Fare Revenue collection.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

Applicants should possess a high school diploma or its equivalent, such as a general education diploma (GED), and demonstrate a minimum of two (2) years of experience in roles related to revenue collection, ATM/Vending equipment service, transportation operations, or vehicle dispatching.
Background Investigation:
Employment is contingent upon the results of the background and credit check.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must hold and maintain a valid Arizona state-issued driver’s license at time of hire and ability to maintain continued insurability.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

  • Conducts daily collection of revenue from fare vending machines, bus garages, administrative buildings, and delivers to the cash processing center.
  • Performs duties with and without armed security based on the nature of work.
  • Supports special events by occasionally working nights, weekends, and holidays to meet revenue collection needs.
  • Drives vehicles, such as vans and trucks, for the transportation of revenues collected.
  • Transports equipment and supplies from revenue vehicle to fare vending machine by hand or with the assistance of applicable equipment.
  • Assumes control, accountability, and security of Valley Metro funds, property, equipment, keys, and locks.
  • Uses proper identification to log in and log out when opening Fair Vending Machines (FVM); removes and installs cash vaults and coin hoppers; replenishes Copper cards and ticket stock for FVM operations.
  • Inspects, cleans, uses, and maintains equipment related to the collection and processing of fares.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Identifies and services minor equipment malfunctions to permit continued operation and reports technical problems that require immediate attention.
  • Performs data entry, data lookup, and report generation using specialized transit software applications.
  • Creates, prepares, reviews, and analyzes computerized and manual reports, including reports of injuries/unusual circumstances regarding employees or suspicious incidents surrounding revenue activities.
  • Promotes and contributes to a positive customer service experience.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledge of:
Cash handling processes and procedures and related security measures when handling cash;
Basic arithmetic (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers);
Customer service principles;
Security practices and procedures;
Safety practices and equipment related to the work;
Record keeping and report writing.
Skills in:
Safely using equipment, machinery, and computers related to fare collection;
Reading/understanding written instructions, forms, revenue/inventory control records, etc.;
Maintaining detailed and accurate records;
Organization and attention to detail;
Performing under the stress of frequent interruptions and/or distractions;
Exercising independent and sound judgment within established procedural guidelines;
Analytical, problem-solving skills and mental ability to resolve issues of moderate complexity;
Comprehending written and verbal instruction;
Communication skills to courteously interact with coworkers, supervisor, and the general public at a level sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction;
Ability to work with a personal computer in a Windows environment. Must be proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook;
10-key by touch;
Ability to demonstrate a fiduciary obligation to Valley Metro in handling money, materials, and information of a confidential nature.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role involves driving and operating vehicles used in fare collection operation, which requires the ability to operate these vehicles safely.
Physical ability to perform revenue collection and currency handling duties, stamina to stand and walk for extended periods of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds, vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Ability to move, push, or pull a portable cart, up to 150 pounds. Works outdoors, often in various weather conditions and exposure to high noise environment, such as traffic.
