NOTE:Must be able to meet at the Maryland Science Center at 3:30 pm or on location for events by 5:00 pm.
Enthusiastic educators wanted for part-time employment. Must have experience working with groups of children and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Educators will join a team of facilitators who take activities to local schools for a two-hour Family Science Night. Each educator facilitates one tabletop science or engineering activity for families of elementary students to partake in. Training is provided. Opportunities to elect to work are generally presented one month ahead of time, and staff signs up for events according to their availability. Most events occur in the late afternoon or evening. The average shift is four hours.
Basic Functions:
- Facilitate FSN activities at school sites
- Model developmentally appropriate behavior with children
- Assist in maintenance of FSN supplies and equipment
- Provide feedback and evaluation of activities and events
- Attend training and complete preparations as directed by supervisor
- Other duties as assigned
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Facilitate FSN activities at school sites
Greet, engage, and assist participants in science/engineering exploration and answer questions as needed. Observe, monitor and maintain safe practices. Provide Maryland Science Center on-floor experiences and guest service in off-site venue.
2. Model developmentally appropriate behavior with children.
Demonstrate age-appropriate behavior with children of all ages
3. Assist in the maintenance FSN supplies and equipment
Reset all activities at opening and closing. Observe safety and cleaning procedures established by supervisor and complete daily cleaning projects.
4. Provide feedback and evaluation of activities
Communicate regularly with program supervisor concerning activity success, material needs, and general event logistics.
5. Attend training and complete reading as directed by supervisor.
Work towards a better understanding of educational development through staff training, workshop attendance, and independent reading if needed.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
