The Family Partner provides peer support to parents/caregivers. The Family Partner brings expertise based on their own experience parenting children or youth with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. The Family Partner works alongside parents and caregivers to help strengthen social networks and enhance parents' and caregivers' confidence so that they can create a successful future for their families.
Your experience, knowledge and great skills will support the Program with the following:
- Engaging parents/caregivers in activities that are designed to address one or more goals on the youth's Care Plan or Individual Action Plan.
- The ability to teach parents/caregivers how to navigate the child-serving systems andprocesses.how to identify formal and community-based resources.
- Demonstrating ability to foster empowerment and link parents/caregivers to peer/parent support and self-help groups.
- Demonstrating competence in dealing with families from a variety of different cultural backgrounds.
- Uses supervision and training to enhance job performance and knowledge.
- Completing paperwork related to service that is of high quality and timely.
What are we looking for in a family Partner?
Qualification/Requirements
- Experience as a caregiver of a youth with special needs and preferably a youth with mental health needs.
- Bachelor's Degree in a human services field from an accredited university AND one (1) year of experience working with the target population; OR
- Associate's degree in a human service field from an accredited school AND one (1) year of experience working with children/adolescents/transition age youth.
- High School diploma or GED/ HiSET AND a minimum of two (2) years of experience working with children/adolescents/transition age youth.
- Experience in navigating any of the child and family-serving systems and teaching family members who are involved with the child and family serving systems.
- Must have a valid Massachusetts driver's license and automobile available during all working hours.
- Must have familiarity with internet, word processing and email systems.
