Status: Regular, full-time, non-exempt

Pay: $25 per Hour

Schedule: Schedule is 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. most days. Must be available to work 9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., two days per week.

Location: Chula Vista Police Department

Family Violence & Shelter Support (FVSS) is a comprehensive program designed to meet the needs of victims and potential victims of domestic violence, batterers and children who have witnessed or been affected by domestic violence in their families and/or been a direct victim by virtue of trying to intervene in the violence. FVSS addresses the issues of domestic violence as it impacts the whole family through prevention, early intervention and treatment strategies. Services are family strengths-based and offer a wide spectrum of bilingual, culturally competent services in order to terminate the abusive behavior and initiate a healthy relationship within the home.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Family Development AssociateFamily Violence Support, under the supervision of the Program Coordinator & Program Director is responsible for providing services to SBCS' clients and the Community. Services will be in keeping with agency goals, objectives, mission and style and provided within a team framework. Associate is responsible for working within the team in developing team goals and objectives and in meeting those goals and objectives.


DUTIES:

  • Provide case management, advocacy, court and forensic (DAFE and SAFE) exam accompaniment and other services relative to program goals and objectives. Including goals and objectives agreed upon with the client based on the Family Well Being Assessment.
  • Conduct strengths-based assessments and develop service plans with clients.
  • Maintains case records and client files as required by SBCS and its funding sources.
  • Appropriate coordination of contacts with other public and private organizations and individuals, as necessary to effectively serve clients. (e.g. progress reports to referral sources, client referrals to other agencies, law enforcement roll-calls).
  • Provides monthly statistical reports of services provided as required by SBCS.
  • Outreach to target population in order to effectively reach those in need of services.
  • Participation in special projects and activities as related to agency's goals and objectives.
  • Participation in agency special events, such as fundraisers, annual meetings, and open houses.
  • Provide crisis intervention services, safety planning services and referrals via telephone and in person to walk-ins.
  • Response to domestic violence calls from the police department.
  • Participation and assistance in implementing program components, such as Multi-Disciplinary Team Meetings.
  • Attends required meetings and training.
  • Support law enforcement after 911 calls to ensure survivors are stabilized.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator and/or Program Director.

  • B.A. or B.S. degree in social work, psychology or related field required.
  • Minimum one year experience in child, youth and family services field. Experience should preferably have been in a community based or neighborhood service organization.
  • Experience in the areas of individual, group, and family counseling, outreach, community education and development, advocacy and case management.
  • Experience working with Domestic Violence survivors is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate positively and appropriately with clients, families, community members, and other employees.
  • Demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of trauma informed care.
  • Possess a high level of tolerance and understanding for individuals who present for services with high-risk needs.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population, possess cultural sensitivity, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employment may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of certain background clearances which may include a Department of Justice criminal background check requiring my fingerprints (Live Scan), screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website, drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, and such additional clearances as may be required under the program.
  • Candidate is required to have reliable transportation; therefore, the candidate must successfully complete a motor history check. Candidate must also possess and maintain a current valid California driver's license and valid auto insurance policy. (40% of the time.)

  • Mentally and emotionally: Ability to work under deadlines, various projects and dealing with clients in crisis and difficult situations.
  • Stand: Remaining on one's feet in an upright position.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot.
  • Lifting: Raising or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) 25-50 lbs.
  • Carrying: Transporting an object, usually holding it in the hands or arms, or on the shoulder
  • Pushing: Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force.
  • Pulling: Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force (includes jerking)
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending stairs, using feet and legs or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand.
  • Finger Movement: Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is important for those activities in which workers must impart oral information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
