POSITION TITLE: Family Assessment Clinician

PROGRAM: Intimate Partner Violence - Family Assessment Intervention Response

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Family Assessment Clinician plays a crucial role in providing an evidenced based intervention to families affected by domestic violence with the ultimate goal of improving their outcomes and fostering safety and healing; Adhering to the guidelines and standards set forth by the Intimate Partner Violence Program which includes crisis intervention, counseling, parent education and linkage to concrete services, and advocacy.

EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide a range of clinical, concrete and advocacy services to family members exposed to intimate partner violence that are consistent with the family’s values, learning styles, lifestyle, circumstances and culture.
  • Develop and maintain a positive, collegial working relationship with family members.
  • Assume responsibility for motivating families and employ motivation enhancement strategies.
  • Conduct comprehensive, strength-focused assessment process, including screening for trauma.
  • Actively use the Fathers for Change and Mothers and More clinical curricula to enhance each parent’s skills and capacity in communication around parenting.
  • Provide a supporting service array of interventions including safety planning, counseling, strengthening the parent/child relationship, parent education and skill building, trauma screening, and service linkages.
  • Collaborate with family members and referents in developing intervention goals and service plans.
  • Advocate for and coordinate concrete goods and services (including transportation) that are directly related to the family’s goals, while teaching family members to meet these needs on their own.
  • Collaborate and advocate with formal and informal community resources and systems, while teaching family members to advocate for themselves.
  • Assess goal progress and families’ ongoing needs.
  • Adhere to all clinical components in the IPV-FAIR model as outlined in the DCF Scope of Service.
  • Serve families who reside in the defined catchment area that are involved with Department of Children and Families (DCF) or DCF’s Family Assessment Response/Community Support for Families (CSF) who are impacted by intimate partner violence.
  • Provide services primarily in client homes. Travel to client homes and other locations.
  • Schedule sessions at times that are convenient for families, and when problems are likely to occur, including evenings, weekends and holidays. Maintain a flexible workweek.
  • Accept referrals when assigned by supervisor and conduct initial joint visit with family and DCF worker within 2 business days.
  • Provide back-up for other program staff as needed.
  • Typically provide bi-weekly contact and community with DCF or CSF through phone calls, emails and program meetings.
  • Consult with the supervisor about every family at least once per week.
  • Follow guidelines regarding consulting with supervisor.
  • Assess safety, structure the environment and use clinical strategies designed to promote safety.
  • Complete and submit all clinical documentation in a timely and accurate manner
  • Other duties as assigned by immediate Supervisor.

Participate in quality enhancement components

  • Participate in all required trainings.
  • Review performance data to identify needed areas for improvement.
  • Work with supervisor to complete professional development plans and performance reviews.
  • Comply with all IPV-FAIR contract requirements.

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete and submit all agency paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Use an online data management system and EHR for all clinical documentation.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with referring agency staff and other community professionals.
  • Represent the agency in community meetings and on interagency teams as directed.
  • Submit all required personnel documents, as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Graduate degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related field and at least 2 years experience working with families.
  • Must be license eligible (for MSW candidates, must possess a LMSW or LCSW)
  • Commitment to the IPV-FAIR model.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain client confidentiality.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain the utmost confidentiality
  • Valid CT driver’s license and vehicle in good working condition.
  • Automobile liability insurance that meets minimum agency requirements.
  • Familiarity with Word, e-mail and Internet.
Typical Working Conditions
  • Requires flexible schedule
  • Work is performed primarily in client homes.
  • Requires extensive travel to client homes and throughout the community.
  • Exposure to smoke, pets, and other conditions found in home settings.
  • Frequent contact with staff and non-staff (e.g., client families, referring agencies, community professionals, community agencies / programs).


SUPERVISION: Supervised by the IPV-Fair Program Manager
