Job Summary
Hyperion Biotechnology is seeking a temporary Family Advocate Instructor to help make a difference supporting the US Army Family Advocacy Program at Ft. Liberty, NC. The instructor will educate and train Soldiers and Family Members on family life issues critical to sustaining a healthy lifestyle free of violence and abuse. Provide timely, effective and intensive early prevention services to at-risk couples and parents at Fort Liberty, NC. Provide comprehensive services to Soldiers and Family members in the form of training, advocacy, education, and information and referral to assist with increasing couples, parental and family coping skills, and to prevent behaviors that could lead to family violence. The Instructor will apply an empirically tested curriculum for delivering services to promote child, couples, and family functioning to parents in order to reduce the number of child abuse cases.
Major Responsibilities/Activities

  • Serves as an Advocate Instructor in support of the ACS and Family Advocacy Program.
  • Prepares for and presents Life Skill classes and child safety puppet shows to the Fort Liberty community.
  • Presents training sessions and classes on the prevention of Child Sexual Exploitation/Abuse.
  • Conducts a Question & Answer session after each presentation, distributes and collects customer satisfaction surveys.
  • Responsible for ensuring each classroom is ready for instruction to include appropriate materials are available, audio-visual aides are in place, seating, lighting, etc. After each session, return the classroom to a clean and presentable state.
  • Works with Administrative Support Specialists to confirm attendance of registered participants by phone or email 1-2 days prior to the course/class start date. Assists in preparing/ assembling participant resource packets, if needed
  • Uses a variety of interactive mediums to engage students (music, video, interactive theater, exercises, etc.).
  • Tailors presentations and materials that are best suitable to varying audiences (parents, children, and different organizations). Reviews course curriculum - coordinates and recommends improvements, changes and updates.
  • Performs outreach sessions, events and activities designed to raise awareness in the community.
  • Conducts daily, weekly and monthly checks with various medical facilities, child development centers, and other organizations/facilities to provide information and referrals about programs and services offered.
  • Works with Family Readiness Groups and volunteers educating them about Family Advocacy information and referrals.
  • Maintains contact with individual customers designated as being a potential risk for abuse by email or phone. Sends information to these customers reminding them of services and events available to them.
  • Inspects all child and youth facilities at Fort Liberty and provides results to the Government.
  • Attends the Installation Child Youth & School Services Evaluation (ICYSE) kickoffs and attends out briefings.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to low-risk advocacy cases, refers high risk cases to the appropriate authority.
  • Complies with, participates and assists in the Family Advocacy Program DA Accreditation standards.
  • Provides input to the Marketing Specialist for informational displays and materials.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in either social work, psychology, marriage, family and child counseling, counseling or behavioral science, education, community health or public health, and two years of demonstrable experience in family and children's services or community
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must be a US Citizen
