Position
The University of Minnesota Crookston invites applications for a full-time faculty member in the Equine Program to support the Equine Business Management and Equine Science degrees in the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
Individuals with a terminal degree and demonstrated potential for research will be considered for a tenure-line appointment. Individuals with a master's degree and/or a terminal degree but without an interest in research will be considered for a full-time Lecturer appointment.
Full-time, nine-month tenure track or LecturerPosition in the Equine Program in the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department at the Crookston campus of the University of Minnesota. Start date is negotiable and position is available as early as January 2024 or latest available start date of August 2024. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality undergraduate instruction to students in the Equine Business Management and Equine Science programs to include hands-on and experiential learning. Course topics may include, but not limited to, Equine Management, Equine Evaluation, Equitation Courses (hunt seat and/or western), Riding Instructor Training, or Farrier Science. New courses may be proposed based upon needs of the program and candidate expertise.
Whether a tenure-line faculty member or a full-time lecturer, the successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Provide undergraduate academic advising and advise program-related extracurricular clubs;
  • Participate in recruitment, assessment and retention efforts;
  • Assist in enhancing the Equine Business Management degree program;
  • Help expand the network within the equine industry to benefit programs, student experiences and employment opportunities;
  • Foster a sense of belonging among all students;
  • Work collaboratively with equine program faculty to continue to shape and refine the equine program to create an impactful and educational experience for UMC students.

Candidates who wish to be considered for a tenure-line appointment are expected to establish a research program with an equine-related focus, which may include work with undergraduate students. Tenure-line appointments carry a < 24.0 credit teaching load (typically three to four courses per semester).
Candidates who wish to be considered for a full-time Lecturer appointment are not expected to establish a research agenda. Full-time lecturer appointments carry a < 30.0 credit teaching load (typically four to five courses per semester).
Whether a tenure-line faculty member or a full-time Lecturer, the successful candidate is expected to help further develop the program; provide undergraduate academic and career advising; advise program-related extracurricular clubs; foster equity and a sense of belonging among all students; and actively participate in recruitment, assessment, and retention efforts.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
• Tenure-track candidates: Doctorate degree or DVM in an equine-related field or business, economics, or ag engineering field with an equine focus.
• Lecturer candidates: Master's degree in an equine-related field or business, economics, or ag engineering field with an equine focus.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the equine industry ;
• Effective communication skills;
• Ability to draw upon cultural and community-based knowledge in teaching and research;
• Ability to demonstrate cultural competence within the scope of the land grant mission.
Preferred Qualifications
• College-level teaching experience, including teaching experiential equine courses;
• University or curriculum development experience;
• Research experience and peer-reviewed publicati on record at an academic institution;
• Experience/track record of seeking and successfully implementing externally funded projects and grants;
• Experience developing and maintaining collaborations with relevant industry partners .
