Role summary and information
- Key function: completes maintenance and custodial tasks that create a safe, healthy, pleasant environment for students, teachers, and families.
- Schedule: full-time position, year-round position. Scheduled modified during school breaks.
- Compensation: salaried position from $15 to $20 depending on experience/qualifications

- Use tools, equipment, and cleaning chemicals safely, consistent with instructions. Adhere to safety measures for lifting, moving, and operating equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance: Proactively plan for and complete preventative maintenance (roofing, HVAC, fire/life safety, roofing, etc). Identify maintenance needs and complete tasks, including but not limited to Change light bulbs/ballasts; touch-up paint to walls, handrails, etc; tighten plumbing fixtures; light plumbing repair; light electrical repair; build furniture; remove debris from roof; spread salt/shovel snow in icy/snow conditions; remove debris from downspouts; provide slip protection on wet floors; assemble furniture, hang shelves; etc
- Engage with contracted professionals (e.g. HVAC, plumbing, electrical) as needed
- Monitor heating/cooling/ventilation system to ensure appropriate temperature
- Support safety. Ensure school materials are protected against loss, theft, or abuse. Lock, secure, and code out of systems as needed at the end of shift. Distribute and monitor keys/access control.
- Support energy conservation: ensure lights/water/HVAC are shut off when not needed.
- Cleaning: assist custodians as needed with cleaning or trash removal.
- Keep equipment in good repair. Periodically inspect facility/equipment to detect, prevent injuries or damage. Monitor inventory and inform managers when items are needed.
- Communicate with the manager and other administrators about matters relating to maintenance and cleaning. Make notations or records as needed. Complete work orders / "help desk tickets" as requested.

Qualifications and traits
- High school diploma or equivalent, or evidence of adequate progress toward it.
- Demonstrated skills / basic proficiency in one or more building trades
- Preferred at least 1 years of experience in a building-related role
- Must complete a background check and must not have a criminal history record that would prevent working in a school environment.
- Willingness to learn.
- Flexibility, initiative, and personal responsibility to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate and maintain good working relations with all school employees, vendors, contractors, and public entities.
- Ability to work effectively and produce accurate work in an environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
