The Facilities / Project Engineer supports the North American Logistic Operations (NALO), with primary responsibility at the Plainfield Distribution Center and as needed support at the Enfield and Fresno Distribution Centers. Responsibilities include daily utilities monitoring, capital project implementation, commissioning, qualification, GMP improvement planning/execution, and maintenance support to ensure reliable, secure, and compliant facilities.  This position will be responsible for the Resource Assessment and Capital Plan Development and execution for North American Logistics Operations.

Key Objectives/Deliverables

  • Safety: Model safe behaviors within daily work. Provide support to the operational areas to address any safety concerns.  Execute projects and activities according to HSE requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Partner with Quality Assurance to assure that all building-related equipment and automation systems meet corporate standards, including, but not limited to drawing management, version management, commissioning, qualification, validation, change management, and system maintenance.
  • Capital Project Management: Manage all aspects of capital projects.  Includes identifying user requirements, executing commissioning & qualification activities, budgeting, cost management, and scheduling to meet business and customer expectations.
  • Equipment/Facilities Support: Support Maintenance and Operations to ensure all building systems and equipment meet current and future customer and regulatory requirements.  Act as the Responsible Engineer for North American Logistics Operations facilities as defined in engineering standards and local SOP’s.
  • Provide technical approval for GMARS (CMMS) work orders to ensure compliance with regulatory and procedural requirements. 
  • Develop, implement, and maintain equipment maintenance strategies to optimize its safe operation, compliance (HSE & cGMP), cost, and efficiency/effectiveness of assets.
  • Perform Continuous Improvement of maintenance instructions and job plans for accuracy, efficiency, and in support of compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Instrument Calibration Data Sheets: Serves as the primary contact for questions about data sheets.  Reviews, modifies, and approves data sheets as required.
  • Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME): Owns the Electrical Safety, Electrical Preventive Maintenance (PM), and Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) programs for NALO. 
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to maintenance staff regarding equipment reliability.
  • Alliance Contractor Work Orders: Reviews and approves Alliance Contractor Work Orders on a periodic basis to ensure accuracy and timely payment.
  • Responsible for ensuring data integrity and good documentation practices while performing job tasks.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical) or other engineering discipline with applicable work experience. 

Additional Skills/ Preferences

  • Technical knowledge and work experience with building systems including facilities, HVAC, refrigeration systems, freezer systems, compressed air, water, sanitary sewers, chilled water, boilers, heating hot water, etc.
  • Education/Experience to allow designation as Responsible Engineer for HVAC, BMS, and other GMP equipment.
  • Understanding of temperature-controlled environments as they relate to temperature mapping.
  • GMARS (CMMS) access to technically approve work orders and research equipment maintenance history.
  • SAP access to issue purchase orders, approve invoices and manage capital projects from beginning to project closure.
  • Technically approve drawing updates.
  • Working knowledge of cGMP’s.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.  This role must effectively communicate with Management, Operations, Maintenance, Quality, HSE, and outside regulatory inspectors. Must provide regular updates, conduct meetings, and produce presentations.
  • Strong self-management and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Change Management, Deviation Management, Periodic Reviews, Commissioning & Qualification, Routine Data Monitoring / Reporting.
  • Root cause analysis and problem solving (CAPA).
  • Ability to apply fundamental engineering principles to process understanding, problem solving and process improvement.
  • Familiarity with Johnson Controls Metasys building management system (BMS) operation and documentation.
  • Understanding of contractor health and safety programs as they relate to selection of contractors to conduct work on Lilly premises.
  • Education/Experience to allow designation as Responsible Engineer for HVAC, BMS, and other GMP equipment.
  • Capital project management experience.
  • Knowledge of cGMP, SAP, Trackwise (QMS), Metasys (BMS), and GMARS (CMMS).
  • Experience with the principles of lean manufacturing to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Ability to function in a team environment.
  • Effectively manage and prioritize competing priorities.

Additional Information

  • Requires off-hours support for equipment operating 24/7.
  • Engineer will be provided a cell phone and is expected to provide off-hours support for critical equipment issues. 
  • Occasional travel to Enfield, CT and Fresno, CA is required (normally 5 – 15%).
