What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a highly motivated Tactical Planner (Limited Term Employee) to join our team! This role will be responsible for mechanical related tasks, for example, troubleshooting mechanical systems and coordinating mechanical outages.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Scope detailed mechanical projects.

  • Perform system modeling, including fluid flow, acoustic analysis, psychometric analysis, and energy conservation analysis.

  • Develop and implement a preventative maintenance plan.

  • Under the direction of an engineer, develop designs for maintenance and minor construction activities.

  • Perform mechanical design reviews.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Applicants on this requisition may be interviewed by multiple organizations at Sandia National Laboratories.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Mechanical Engineering related field, plus five (5) or more years of exempt level, relevant experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience (Master's degree plus one (1) year of exempt level, relevant experience; Associate's degree plus nine (9) years of exempt level, relevant experience; or a High School diploma plus thirteen (13) years of exempt level, relevant experience).

  • Demonstrated experience working in one or more of the following with mechanical design experience:

  • Facilities organization

  • Engineering firm

  • Construction industry

  • Inspection

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance (with the ability to obtain an SCI clearance).

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Basic knowledge of technical building or site infrastructure design and construction.

  • Working knowledge and understanding in Facilities engineering, design, construction and contracting.

  • Under the direction of an engineer, develop designs for maintenance and minor construction activities.

  • Experience in the following:

  • Project Management; Understanding and development of charters for the execution of projects.

  • Managing and analyzing data and communicating it in an effective and timely manner.

  • Computerized facilities management systems such as Maximo, Tririga, or other similar software platforms.

  • Working for a Facilities management and maintenance organization.

  • NNSA, DOE or other federal government requirements.

  • Preventative maintenance planning and troubleshooting equipment.

  • Current mechanical codes and standards (IBC, UPC, ASHRAE standards).

  • Working knowledge of facilities design and construction industry standard methodologies.

  • Proven ability to initiate effective internal customer relationships.

  • Ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple high rigor tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Active DOE/DOD security clearance.

  • Proficiency or training in Trane Trace.

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or LEED Accredited Professional certification.

  • Demonstrated analytical and reasoning skills necessary to identify and resolve mechanical risk issues with the mission in mind and assist in making recommendations to management.

  • Familiar with industrial and/or commercial Building Control Systems/Facility Control Systems and associated instrumentation like Siemens or other similar systems.

About Our Team:

The Facilities Area-FAM 1 Department 4821 is responsible for facilities in TA-I. Our mission is to maintain the buildings and associated systems fit for mission use, as well as to facilitate modifications in support of future mission work. We strive to partner with our customers to respond to building issues and support the needs of the mission.Note: Candidates may be interviewed for other departments.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
