Job description

The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for managing the District's Facilities Maintenance program using Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles and supervising the team members who possess a wide variety of specialized skillsets. This position will coordinate activities conducted by the Facilities Maintenance workgroup, which is responsible for maintaining District facilities and providing support personnel for other District workgroups.
The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor is a key member of the District's Operations and Maintenance team. This position will work under the direction of the Maintenance and Reliability Manager and works closely with other Operations and Maintenance supervisors, and the Operations Manager and their team.

Since 1930, the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District has maintained an enduring mission of protecting public health and the environment, and serves the Dane County region through wastewater collection, treatment and resource recovery programs. Through these programs, the District recycles and returns to the environment clean water, generates renewable energy and recovers nutrients for agricultural uses. As a result of its initiatives in source reduction and resource recovery, the District is a nationally recognized leader in returning clean wastewater to the environment.

The District has a 188-square-mile-service area that encompasses 25 owner communities and operates a large network of interceptor sewers, pumping stations and a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant.

  1. Supervise maintenance technicians as they ensure continued operation of District maintained facilities, buildings and grounds infrastructure and equipment.
  2. Support development and teamwork of Facilities Maintenance staff by providing clear direction, leadership, and support.
  3. As a supervisor, maintain a safe and professional work environment for the Facilities Maintenance staff, other district employees, and outside personnel.

Required:
  • At least ten years of facilities or building maintenance experience in a large industrial setting that includes multiple buildings.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
Preferred:
  • Registered journeyman skilled tradesperson (plumber, carpenter, etc.) with the State of Wisconsin or comparable, or a two-year associates degree in a skilled trade
  • Experience with common wastewater treatment equipment.
  • Prior supervisory or leadwork experience.
  • Supervisory or leadership education.

Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with occasional time in the field or plant setting. Must be able to safely use computer equipment for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to operate a computer or other office equipment, as well as ability to read and write words and numbers. Requires ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone. The noise level varies from quiet to loud.
Work may occasionally require exposure to hazardous conditions and noxious chemicals. Work may also occasionally require performance of tasks outdoors under varying climate conditions, at elevated levels or confined areas. Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical and other environmental hazards. Must be approved to wear and use a respirator and SCBA and other required PPE. Additional requirements may be specified depending on the needs of department.
