Job description

POWTEC has an immediate need for a Facilities Engineer to support a government customer. The candidate(s) will be working REMOTELY and travel to multiple government installations to conduct surveys of the existing operational technology (OT) at each of the customer sites and build an inventory of these systems. OT control systems are defined as a set of computerized components that manage, direct, command, or regulate the behavior of other devices or systems and fall into four categories: belief, boundary, diagnostics, and interactive. They typically have the following components: computer manager, digital controllers, sensors, actuators, communications equipment, and other cyber-physical devices.

The successful candidate will be tasked with working with a small 2-3 person team and coordinate with government personnel to conduct the surveys at each location and compile survey information gathered into inventory reports for each installation. Travel is estimated to last two to three weeks in duration at each site.

Location:

  • US Remote (must reside in the United States)
  • This position will travel to government installations within the US frequently: Alabama, Illinois, Ohio, Texas, California, and New York

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform inventories of customer owned OT or computer automated control systems for six installations.
  • Travel to each location: Alabama, Illinois, Ohio, Texas, California, and New York to perform the inventory.
  • Inventory the following control system types: Fire support systems, security systems, traffic control (car, train, air), Heating Ventilation and Cooling (HVAC), Automated power (electrical) metering, light and fan automated controls, badge/camera/door automation, water/wastewater management systems, safety systems, industrial manufacturing equipment, industrial support systems and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Gather pertinent information on the control systems and document using predefined forms gathering the following data fields: site, building, room, make, model, serial#, equipment owner, connection type, component type, control system category, operating system, and operating system version.
  • Gather pertinent information on the control system and document with accurate and detailed data using predefined forms.
  • Quantify the type of control system identified and classify into predetermined categories.
  • Identify if the inventoried equipment is connected to a network and assign/classify network type.
  • Document and record the equipment physically surveyed at each customer location.
  • Consolidate survey information into an inventory report for each installation which contains all OT control systems equipment organized by installation and by control system type.
  • Performs work independently under general supervision and as part of a small survey team.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills including the ability to interpret technical concepts to and from non-technical users.
  • Must have attention to detail and ability to produce clear and concise technical documentation.
  • Experience and understanding of OT control systems, industrial equipment, PLCs, network connectivity, and automation systems.
  • Experience with automated control systems and knowledge in order to determine what equipment looks like and determination of qualifying factors.
  • Able to work independently (aside from escort) to identify qualified equipment and quickly gather inventoried fields of data into a predetermined form.
  • Knowledge of basic network connectivity and ability to identify wired, wireless, and cellular-type connections.
  • Experience in the preparation and presentation of oral and written briefings and reports to all levels of leadership and management.
  • Clearable US Citizen that is able to pass a background investigation in order to obtain a federal security clearance.

Education and Experience:

  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience and understanding of OT control systems, industrial equipment, PLCs, network connectivity, and automation systems.
  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, Bachelor’s degree preferred. A combination of equivalent education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience providing control systems support to the Department of Defense preferred, preferably for the U.S. Army.

  • The employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stoop, kneel, squat, or crouch; use hands to finger, handle, feel, and type; balance; bend and reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • The employee will be regularly required to perform mobile survey and general office duties such as extended periods of walking, standing, crouching, kneeling, sitting, typing, and speaking in-person and on the telephone and via the web.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include near and far vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be regularly exposed to a variety of industrial and office conditions.

  • The noise level in the work environment will be variable but is expected to be minimal for the majority of the work locations.
