Statement of the Position
The Department of Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, and Special Education(EESE)within the School of Education at Norfolk State University invites applicationsfor a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Special Education (F0395) position, with ananticipated start date of August 15, 2024. We seek candidates that have expertise incurriculum development and instruction for exceptional learners, inclusive classroomenvironments, and research-based best practices in Special Education. Review of Applications will begin November 1 and continue until the position is filled.
Norfolk State University's Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, and Special Education (EESE) is housed in the School of Education (EESE). The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs focused upon working with children in P-12 school setting as well as community and agency programs.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach and develop courses in the Bachelor of Science inEducation (B.S.Ed.) and Master of Arts (M.A.) degree programs in Special Education.The candidate will supervise student internships and other field experiences, advise andmentor students, hold office hours as designated by the University, engage in programdevelopment, curriculum reviews, and assessment of student learning, provide supportfor program coordination and administration (e.g., recruitment, admissions, programming), and serve on Departmental, School, and University committees. The candidate will conduct scholarly research, publish in respected refereed scholarly journals and/or academic presses, and participate in other scholarly activities to secure external funding.

Minimum Qualifications
1. An earned doctorate (Ph.D. /Ed. D.) in Special Education or related field from an accredited
university is necessary.
2. Candidates should have evidence of or demonstrated potential for inclusive teaching at theundergraduate and/or graduate level that builds engaging, relevant, and authentic learningexperiences for students.
3. Candidates should have evidence of an established or developing research agenda thatinforms teaching and practice in Special Education.
Additional Considerations
1. Preference will be given to candidates with a record of teaching experience at the collegeor university level and considerable practice with face-to-face and online course delivery modalities .
2. Candidates eligible for a Commonwealth of Virginia Professional License with anendorsement in Special Education and previous experience as a P-12 Special Educationteacher are highly preferred.
3. Candidates with experience advising undergraduate and/or graduate students, developingcollaborative partnerships with campus units and organizations, and active involvement inprofessional associations and/or in partnerships in the field are also preferred.
