Extrusion Operator (Blown Film)

These positions operate on a 12 hour shift, 2, 2, 3, rotation from 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am. Night shift earns a shift differential of $2.00/hr. Hours scheduled on the weekend have a differential of $1.50/hr for Saturdays and Sundays in addition to base hourly rate.

$1,500 signing bonus payable at 6- and 12- months of continuous employment.

Summary

The Extrusion Operator is primarily responsible for manufacturing Blown Film products and operates a multifunctional extrusion machine to perform various tasks in the transformation of plastic material into flexible packaging. Programming, adjustment and setting of machine parameters and tools are part of everyday life. In addition to adjustments between orders, the operator is responsible for preventive maintenance of the machine and assisting in the trouble shooting process as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Read and understand the communication book, in order to plan the work shift
• Run all phases of extrusion production to ensure product conforms to customer specifications with minimal waste, rejects, and loss of efficiencies
• Help with the installation, adjustments and disassembly of the machines and the equipment.
• Cut and verify the measurements of the sleeves, and prepare pallets.
• Verify, inspect & clean the extruder continuously.
• Verify the quality of the plastic produced (weight, thickness, width, treatment, opacity & visual quality) and wrap the rolls accordingly.
• Complete production reports.
• Troubleshoot and conduct basic repairing or checking faulty equipment.
• Maintain inventory of all materials used in the extrusion process.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety in your department.
• Execute all other related tasks as directed when needed.
• Practice safety through following all procedures and participate in all safety trainings and audits.
• Management of material in shipping and receiving system to ensure accurate shipments and inventory levels.
• Demonstrate ability to properly lock out all areas of extrusion line and risks associated with working in production.
• Use of production reporting system to ensure accuracy of data and labels.
• 5S and housekeeping
• Participate in continuous improvement projects.
• Expand knowledge on extrusion lines (and other equipment) through experience.
• Be able to operate in a team environment through proper communication and assisting each other during all steps of operation.

Education and /or Experience

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• One to three years experience and/or training in Blown Film Extrusion.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Mathematical ability necessary.
• Ability to work various shifts.
• Basic computer skills required.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Employees are required to wear hearing protection, safety glasses, and safety shoes.
