Job description

Summary

Kitsap Credit Union is hiring a full time and commission-eligible External Mortgage Loan Consultant to work with our hybrid team based out of our Puyallup location. This position is responsible for the timely and accurate origination of home loans, working with members and nonmembers throughout the process, ensuring all documentation is accurate, and that all loans meet regulatory compliance from origination through closing.

 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Lead generation: Develop and implement strategies to generate a consistent flow of leads through networking referrals and other marketing activities. Generate External Mortgage leads and loans through MLO’s own loan lead sources.
  • Client engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing exceptional customer service, and ensuring a smooth loan application process.
  • Qualification and Credit Analysis: Interview applicants, assess client financial information, and evaluate their eligibility for various mortgage products. Review real estate loan applications brought in to ensure information is accurate and meets product guideline, risk profile, and Automated Underwriting requirements. Provide applicants with an overview of the process, team contacts, and established communication touch points to ensure a timely exchange of information and accomplish an on-time mortgage closing.
  • Product knowledge: Stay up to date with mortgage products, guidelines, and rates to provide informed recommendations to clients.
  • Loan Origination: Manage the full loan origination process, including pre-qualification, application, documentation collection, and submission.
  • Compliance: Ensure all loan applications and documentation meet regulatory and company guidelines.
  • Negotiation: Negotiate loan terms and conditions with clients, striving for optimal loan solutions.
  • Pipeline Management: Maintain an organized loan pipeline, regularly updating clients and stakeholders on the status of their applications. Manage a mortgage pipeline through the effective use of third-party vendor services, loan operating systems, and effective team communication to ensure delivery of quality mortgage products and services in a cost-effective.
  • Closing: Effectively work with our internal team to ensure that loans meet eligibility requirements, all conditions for closing are received timely, and regulatory requirements are met on all loans, and when needed requesting additional support from our Business Analyst and/or Director of Real Estate Operations/VP Real Estate Lending.

 

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Proven experience as a Mortgage Loan Officer with a track record of generating leads and closing loans
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Solid loan referral sources confirmed with realtors, CPAs, attorneys, builders, etc.
  • Highly motivated and results-driven
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of first mortgage real estate lending practices, including federal regulatory requirements, state regulations, agency, and Credit Union requirements
  • Strong prospecting skills, ability to make referral source loan presentations
  • Thorough knowledge of first mortgage real estate lending practices, including federal regulatory requirements, FNMA/FHLMC, FHA, GNMA, state regulations, agency, and Credit Union
  • Demonstrates an elevated level of engagement and active collaboration contributing to a positive team environment

Quick Facts

Employment Type: Full time, non-exempt, commission-eligible, hybrid

Working hours: Monday - Friday 8AM - 5PM & evenings and weekends as needed to meet with clients

Salary: $17.32 - $21.65/hour plus commission

Grade: 5BC

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Two plus years of Mortgage Loan sales experience in a financial institution
  • Must be registered with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) within 30 days of hire and comply with the SAFE Act regulations
