Job description

Southern Region includes the following Counties: Adams, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Gallia,
Hamilton, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, and Scioto.
Target counties, identified based on community needs and may change as needs in the region
change.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) teaches limited resource
families how to shop, cook, and eat within their budgets. EFNEP teaches nutrition, physical
activity, food safety, and resource management. This position will focus on teaching lowincome parents or caregivers of youth, and/or youth.
The EFNEP Extension Educator will recruit groups for EFNEP classes by doing outreach and
collaborating with community agencies. In addition, they will participate in staff development
and training in nutrition and best practices for teaching. This is a grant funded position.
The EFNEP Educator is a telework position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teach food and nutrition related subject matter (physical activity, food safety, food resource management, and food security) to limited resource adults who are the primary caregiver (parents, foster parents, grandparents caring for grandchildren) of children and/or limited resource youth.
  • Instruct participants in groups in community settings, including but limited to, faith-based organizations, libraries, community centers, after school programs, homeless shelters, schools, recovery centers.
  • Provide information to participants about other USDA nutrition assistance programs,
  • WIC, school lunch, SNAP, etc.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records and reports for all activities as required.
  • Use a standardized curriculum and evaluation instruments to teach and assess program participants’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors pre to post series to determine program impact.
  • Organizes and conducts educational activities, including recruiting participants, reserving/setting up for the classes, cleaning up, securing supplies, and maintaining all paperwork.
  • Strong oral and written communication, leadership mentoring, and group process skills.
  • Evidence of ability to work within a team environment.
  • Exceptional, proven competence in interpersonal relationship skills, including the ability to effectively relate to and communicate with staff, faculty, elected officials, colleagues, and program participants from diverse cultural backgrounds, including individuals with limited English skills.
  • Ability to interpret and enforce University policy and best practices in a variety of areas, including discrimination allegations, conflict of interest, volunteer management, and program liability.
  • Knowledge and skill with computer technology in preparing reports, presentations, data analysis and internet applications.
  • Knowledge of basic educational methods and the ability to effectively teach program specific material.
  • Ability to work as a teleworker with minimal supervision, including prioritizing workloads and meeting deadlines.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Extension organization, operation, philosophy, and commitment to diversity, equity, and intentional outreach to underrepresented community members.
  • Ability to plan and maintain a flexible work schedule, including evening and weekend work to meet time demands and/or special needs of program management.
  • A valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with required liability insurance, to be utilized for frequent travel.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Teaching experience in informal and formal settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain diverse networks.
  • Demonstrated experience working with urban, rural, and/or Appalachian communities
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree preferred.
