They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.   SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:  Kentucky State University 4-H Program serves urban and suburban stakeholders through in-school as well as after-school programming. The Extension Assistant for 4-H Youth Development will cooperatively work with Extension Assistant for 4-H Youth Development under the direct supervision of the 4-H Youth Development Agents and overall supervision of the County Operations Director. This position will serve all clientele ensuring that all youth and adults have equal opportunity to participate in Extension programs regardless of race, color, ethnic origin, national origin, creed, religion, political belief, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, marital status, genetic information, or age.  ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Assist in the planning and organization of the Kentucky State University 4-H Programs in Jefferson County, Louisville, Kentucky under the guidance of the supervising 4-H Youth Development Agent. Prepares and presents 4-H programs in collaboration with 4-H agents.  Assists with county extension events.  Attends county and/or state events with youth.  Recruits 4-H youth, community leaders, and businesses to participate in community events through Jefferson County.  Prepares and modifies various program materials, files, records, and reports.  Under the direction of reporting 4-H Agent, will implement assigned programs in schools, community centers, office locations, and anywhere else programs may be established. Assist the 4-H Agents in planning and organization of all 4-H Educational programs including 4-H clubs, community outreach events, county fairs, state fairs, volunteer training, 4-H camp, STEM camps, mentoring grants, and other events and activities as determined by the 4-H Agents.  Planning and organizing before and after an event including communication with assignment/scheduling of 4-H members and/or volunteers at events, and email/phone call correspondence.   Assist the 4-H agents in writing and assembling the 4-H newsletter. Assist the 4-H Youth Development agents with growing the 4-H program through multiple delivery methods and audiences in compliance with Cooperative Extension Strategic Plan and Limited English Proficient (LEP) requirements.  Assist and develop outreach to local underserved and underrepresented youth across all programming areas through school enrichment, after-school and Special Interest (SPIN) Clubs.  Ensure accuracy and use of Kentucky State University 4-H data and evaluation systems  Attend 4-H and Jefferson County program meetings.  Answer phone calls and walk-in clients with questions about 4-H events and/or activities as needed.  Steward all aspects of extension programming including risk management, civil rights compliance, volunteerism, and all related elements. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in education, Youth Development sociology, agriculture, family and consumer sciences, environmental education, liberal studies, or related field OR significant experience in a Youth Development organization (as a member, volunteer, leader, paid staff member, or some combination).  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:     Extensive knowledge of youth development in urban/suburban settings. Knowledge of methods, approaches, and procedures involved in planning programs for youth.   Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing.  Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.  Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.   Skill in the use of personal computers and related software packages.   Records maintenance skills.   Strong planning and organizational skills.  Ability to plan and teach educational programs.  Ability to work well in teams.  Ability and understanding of the Land Grant mission and vision, University policies, procedures, and objectives in planning and conducting Extension programs.    Knowledge of federal and state agricultural agencies. knowledge of Agricultural crops.   Initiative, resourcefulness, punctuality, and the ability to work independently are essential.   PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Work involves some exposure to outdoor elements during various seasons of the year.   Requires standing, lifting, loading, and unloading tools, twisting, kneeling, bending, and walking.   Ability to lift 50 lbs. required.  This position requires some night meetings, weekend work, and attendance at out-of-county meetings.   A valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle for official duty travel are required. Mileage will be reimbursed at a rate established by the university field research involves extended physical exertion.
