We are seeking a friendly and Experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our two-doctor general practice team! We are a privately-owned, small animal practice that sees dogs and cats, as well as some pocket pets and exotics.
You would be joining a fun, friendly team of veterinary professionals. All staff are cross-trained in all relevant departments to better support each other and work seamlessly as a team.
Responsibilities:
- Maintaining records using our practice management software.
- Assisting in exam rooms – getting vitals and patient history, as well as assisting the doctor for exam and completing the medical record.
- Technician appointments.
- Animal restraint using safe, stress-minimizing handling.
- Client education and communication.
- Prepping and assisting with surgical and anesthetic procedures, utilizing our multi-parameter monitoring equipment.
- Diagnostics and sample collection such as radiographs, phlebotomy, running in-house lab machines.
- Caring for and monitoring hospitalized patients, including IV catheter placement, maintaining IV fluids, injections, collecting vitals, updating pet’s family.
- Some reception work, as our team is cross-trained to support each other. This includes answering phones, scheduling appointments, checking clients in and out, and processing payments.
- Maintaining a clean and organized hospital.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; further education in the veterinary field preferred
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant in a hospital setting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a friendly and professional manner.
- Empathy and understanding towards clients and their pets.
- Proficiency in computer skills and practice management software
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with attention to detail
- Flexibility to work Saturdays (rotating schedule, some Saturdays off) and some (minimal) overtime.
