Job title Field Service Technician

Reports to Service Manager

Job Purpose

Delval Equipment is actively hiring for an experienced Commercial and Industrial Boiler Technician who will hit the ground running by providing exceptional service to our customers throughout the Washington, PA and surrounding areas. The Field Service Technician will be responsible for supporting customer needs with excellent customer service, while maintaining company values. He/she provides preventative maintenance, inspections, and will respond to emergency service calls on equipment. They are also responsible for the troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs of equipment at customer locations.

Requirements

2-4 + years working with Industrial/Commercial Boilers Preferred

or

2+ years experience in Commercial/ Industrial HVAC Service Technician with full understanding of HVAC systems operations and maintenance programs with related experience plus technical training required

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and perform start-ups of newly installed boilers from the factory (also from our rental boiler fleet) all performed at customer locations.
  • Completing PM contracts (preventative maintenance) as well as annual maintenance and inspections.
  • Troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Effectively use multimeter, combustion analyzer and other related test equipment to test, fire, troubleshoot, and set combustion on all types of boilers.
  • Installation, upgrading, and maintenance of combustion control equipment, including controls and burners.
  • Have knowledgeable of PLC’s, transformers, transmitters and other boiler/burner controls.
  • Performs emergency trouble shooting of boilers, boiler related equipment and controls.
  • Performs and supervises repairs and conversions to equipment.
  • Perform emergency service call after hours, on a rotational weekend service call schedule. On average a technician will be on-call once every six (6) weeks.
  • Help train and consult, when necessary, less experienced technicians on the operation and controls of boilers and any boiler related equipment and controls.
  • Technician will maintain accurate and thorough documentation of hours worked, tasks performed, materials used, and processes involved.
  • Maintain condition of and inventory of all tools, equipment, and company vehicle.
  • Works well with peers, supervisors, parts and sales departments, and most importantly, our customers.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to read and work from mechanical prints and schematics.
  • Must have a broad knowledge of boiler controls
  • Must have a strong mechanical and electrical background
  • Must be able to retrofit control systems in the field
  • Must have the ability to trouble shoot boilers and auxiliary equipment.
  • Familiarity using electrical and mechanical testing equipment
  • Must be fluent in the use of combustion analyzers.
  • Must be familiar with common burner management systems (BMS)
  • Must be familiar with common combustion control systems (CCS)
  • Technical aptitude with a strong desire to learn and grow.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, contractors, vendors, other service employees, management, and sales personnel.
  • A solid understanding of boilers, burners, burner management systems and related steam and hot water systems
  • Experience with fuel delivery systems, boiler feedwater systems, and blowdown heat recovery systems.
  • Safe driving record and ability to travel overnight on occasion when needed.
  • Utilizes theories of electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, combustion and incineration.

Schedule Requirements:

Technician needs to be at the job-site ready to work each day at 6:30am. Job locations may be different each day so you will need to plan your commute prior to your scheduled workday.

The position of Service Technician requires after hours emergency on-call support. Delval provides emergency on-call 24/7 support via on-call rotation. On average a technician will be on-call once every six (6) weeks.

Physical requirements

As a field Service Technician, you will need to be able to lift and carry up to 50+ pounds and will require climbing, bending, being on your feet for long periods of time, stooping, and working in confined and elevated areas. Safe daily driving and infrequent out of town travel will be necessary.

Must be able to pass required physical & illicit substance screening prior to your official start of employment with Delval.
