Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the SVP of Global Supply Chain, and part of the larger Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing organization (PDM), the Executive Director of Supply Chain Excellence and Strategy will lead a team of Supply chain professionals to deliver enterprise-focused strategy for Supply Chain linked to the overall PDM strategy, providing clarity to Supply Chain leaders and stakeholders in PDM and outside PDM to whom Supply Chain provides a service delivering clinical and commercial product to patient. This role is accountable for driving continuous improvement and performance management activities in commercial and clinical planning, logistics, customer service, trade compliance and strategic sourcing. This role is accountable for the data strategy across PDM, collaborating closely with all PDM functional groups including RA, Tech Dev, Mfg. Ops, QA, PDM strategy. This role is accountable for improved sustainability across the E2E Supply Chain; focused on meeting Gilead’s ESG goals. This role is accountable for trade compliance.

Focus Areas:

Design, recruit, staff and lead an organization which will:

  • Design, develop and execute SC Strategy and People Capability

  • Participate in Supply Chain Benchmarking, scan the industry environment for Supply Chain trends and manage the Gartner account which focuses on SC strategy, planning and logistics

  • Define the E2E SC strategy (clinical through to commercial product customer service), maturity evolution and the execution plan for people, process and systems; including but not exhaustive to sustainability improvements, training, analytics, technology, clinical and commercial planning automation, logistics real time visibility, real time inventory tracking, trade compliance, supplier integration beyond Ariba in SAP and warehouse automation as appropriate.

  • Develop and deliver a SC performance management dashboard that feeds into the PDM KPI’s and goals,

  • Build a culture and a system of continuous improvement across the E2E SC and measure it through efficiency, savings, and SC projects.

  • Build a focus on sustainability and ensure embedded in all strategies from site selection to delivery to end customer and demonstrate contribution to meeting PDM and Gilead ESG goals.

  • Develop and execute data strategy for PDM building on what already exists to deliver SAP and focused on people, capability gaps and plan to close the capability gaps.

  • Mature and evolve the master data management team

Process and Systems and Execution:

  • Deliver trade compliance, collaborating with tax, legal, finance and all teams across PDM who’s activities have cross boarder implications from clinical supply to commercial.

  • Articulate and document all the E2E process underpinned by data, with a training plan to support and future end state for data management post SAP release 2, collaborating across Gilead on data governance and adherence.

  • Ensure SOPs are in place to ensure uninterrupted supply, plan do check act process (PDCA) in place for continuous improvement, following quality management system.

  • Accountable for service level agreements for where this teams provides a service, i.e., MDM, analytics as applicable.

  • Create a SC training curriculum for all members of Supply chain and a strategy for job rotation program across SC to build E2E capability and foster collaboration across the teams within Supply Chain.

Qualifications:

  • Primary degree in Supply Chain, Business, Science, or Engineering discipline. Master’s degree and/or professional qualifications in Supply Chain management desired.

  • 15+ years of biopharmaceutical industry experience with at least 5 years of experience focused on management and leadership roles in Supply Chain functions.

  • Primary degree in Business, Science or Engineering discipline. Master’s degree and/or professional qualifications in Supply Chain management desired.

  • Experience developing, implementing, and executing strategic plans and objectives for organizations and departments.

  • Solid understanding of current industry trends.

  • Leadership qualities of the successful candidate include the following: collaboration, building and developing high performing teams, accountability, cross functional engagement and influence, program management, strategic vision, executive presence, coaching, goal setting and performance management.

  • Strong business acumen. Capability to navigate and lead in a highly matrixed environment.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Can make convincing arguments, inspire action, and bridge diverse cultures. Capable to communicate the world of PDM to people outside of PDM, and to communicate about the world outside of PDM to those inside.

  • A proven capability to contribute to your team’s success through servant leadership.

  • A proven capability to contribute to the success of PDM and Gilead as a senior leader.

The salary range for this position is: $242,590.00 - $313,940.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
