Job Summary
We are seeking an Executive Director, Laboratory Animal Medicinefor our Safety Assessment site located Reno, Nevada.
The following are responsibilities related to the Executive Director, Laboratory Animal Medicine:
Responsible for the technical and professional oversight of all animal care and use functions involving Laboratory Animals across Safety Assessment sites and lead the Global Safety Assessment Veterinary Medicine Functional Matrix. As a member of the Safety Assessment Leadership Team the Executive Director will partner with Charles River leaders in animal welfare, toxicology, operations and regulatory to advance industry leading programs in Laboratory Animal welfare. The incumbent will partner with other Charles River business units on the topics of animal health and well-being, regulatory compliance, and business operations. Serve as the subject matter expert on animal health and preventive medicine across vendors and Charles River Safety Assessment sites.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Animal care program assessment and development including optimization of animal welfare, veterinary care, and husbandry operations.
•Provide leadership and strategic development within SA for the operation and performance of all LAM activities.
•Pharmaceutical development with an emphasis on the interface between toxicology, pathology, and Laboratory Animal Medicine in nonclinical safety assessment.
•Regulatory compliance including Good Laboratory Practices, OLAW and AAALAC program management in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
•Client relations with veterinary specialists across the pharmaceutical and biotech industries in Europe and the United States.
•Mentorship of veterinary, operational, and behavioral medicine staff at all levels of experience
•Assist in the planning, design, and/or renovation of existing or new animal care facilities.
•Assure the health and welfare of all research animals in Safety Assessment through delegation and oversight of matrix reports.
•Ensure compliance with established company, industry, and regulatory standards.
Job Qualifications
Education: Doctoral degree (D.V.M./V.M.D.) in Veterinary Medicine, Master's degree (M.S.) in a discipline relevant to Laboratory Animal Medicine preferred.
Experience: 10+ years' experience with increasing levels of responsibility in managing Laboratory Animal programs. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
Certification/Licensure: Current license to practice veterinary medicine in at location where Safety Assessment operates.
Other: ACLAM /ECLAM Diplomate Status preferred.
"The pay range for this position is $260,000 - $310,000 annually. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location."
