GENERAL FUNCTION
Under the direction of the CEO, the Executive Director of Child Care and Camps is responsible for the overall operation of development, education, and learning centers within the region/district. This position is responsible for the supervision of the operations and fiscal management of multiple association sites. This position participates in formulating corporate goals and philosophy with the President’s Office. The Executive Director also provides direction and leadership for the achievement of Association and youth development goals in accordance with the policies, procedures, and standards established by the corporate board. This role oversees the YMCA’s wide range of childcare, including enrollment growth, programming, staffing, fundraising, community relations, and collaborations/partnerships.
The Executive Director is responsible for supporting and managing the multi-million-dollar youth development programs, in addition to the day-to-day business operations of all School Age Child Care programs, Early Learning Centers and Camps. The ideal candidate will have noticeable experience ensuring high-quality enrichment and childcare programming.
Ideal candidates should have a proven track record of creative program development and proactive responses to curriculum and participant feedback analysis. Excellence in quality leadership would require experience in positive staff coaching, progressive program development and parent relations.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and maintain key relationships and partnerships between the YMCA of Greater Springfield and the community (public not-for-profit, educational institutions and private corporations.)
Provides leadership and direction to the association’s education programs.
Have a clear understanding of EEC regulations and licensing procedures for all programs and maintain programs to meet or exceed EEC standards.
Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum and program schedules of the programs.
Build positive community relations with school principals, school committees, families, local residents and other groups that are pertinent to the success of the programs.
Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate and develop staff and volunteers.
Operate department budget to ensure financial stability.
Pursue grants and foundations to sustain programs.
Participate in professional staff development opportunities and meetings as assigned.
EFFECT ON END RESULT
This position has a primary impact on the overall effectiveness with which the Centers accomplish purpose, goals and objectives in serving the community. Therefore, the effectiveness of this position should be measured by the following:
Programs and Learning centers will increase net annual participation from the prior year.
The community will better understand the YMCA education initiatives and the need to support them.
Participants will better understand the YMCA’s charitable mission.
KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE, SKILLS, & HABITS
Knowledge
Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, youth development or related business field
7+ years of experience in programming, child development, and early childhood education
Experience in the areas of business and financial operations
Risk management and personnel management experience
Proven track records in program development, staff development, community outreach, and relationship building.
Must be proficient with MS Office programs.

Understand the broad overview of the goals and purposes of the YMCA and how it operates as a local, national and international movement.

PHYSICAL ABILITY
Must be willing to travel extensively within Western Massachusetts
Must have valid driver’s license.
May be required to sit for extended periods of time while demonstrating manual dexterity in order.

Must possess auditory, verbal and visual capabilities in order to adequately communicate via email, phone and in person.
