The Events Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of an annual roster of signature organization events. The successful candidate will increase fundraising through events and identify new opportunities. The Events Manager reports to the Director of Development and is responsible to:
Fundraising
- Raise funds from sponsors and donors through a variety of signature events to meet or exceed established fundraising goals.
- Identify opportunities to establish connections with new contacts and cultivate relationships with prospective donors and sponsors.
- Achieve $300,000 individual fundraising goal through securing both renewal gifts and new gifts for special events from individual donors and institutional sponsors.
- Sustain and grow event sponsorships in the $1,000 to $5,000 range.
Event Management
- Support the Director of Development in the execution of fundraising and community events, including planning, logistics, on-site event management, and volunteer management.
- Coordinate sponsorship activation for events – communicating with sponsor contacts to obtain necessary items to fulfill sponsorship benefits, i.e. logos, ads, etc.
- Maintain and update event registration spreadsheets.
- Establish and manage relationships with event vendors such as venues, AV, security, etc.
Event Volunteer Committees
- Attend meetings of various volunteer event committees
- Take and disseminate minutes of meetings promptly.
- Schedule and coordinate committee meetings
- Conduct follow-up with volunteers to provide information and support for their solicitation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
- 5+ years’ experience in event coordination, marketing, sales or similar area
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (or 3+ years’ work experience in lieu of a college degree)
- Two-plus years of related experience, including customer service, account management, data analysis, spreadsheet management, hospitality, and similar.
- Experience with development and fundraising in a non-profit organization or similar preferred.
- Commitment to and knowledge of the LGBT community
- Ability to articulate the LGBT Network’s mission is essential.
- Strong proficiency with computer skills such as Microsoft Word and Excel
Other Requirements
- Flexible work schedule a must, as this position requires evening hours and weekends – hybrid in-office/work-from-home schedule available seasonally
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver license required; position will require frequent travel within Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships.
- Sensitivity, understanding and the ability to effectively interact with individuals, both internal and external, from diverse backgrounds
- Excellent interpersonal and phone skills and ability to work with a wide range of people.
- Strong public speaking and networking skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills for handling multiple tasks at once
- Excellent time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
Compensation
Salary commensurate with experience
