Overview

 

 

Plans, executes, and evaluates on-site and off-site Events and Promotions (ranging from 140 to 20,000+ guests) with the guest experience in mind for the purpose of driving attendance, increasing revenue and brand awareness for the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks ("CZFP"). 

Responsibilities
  • Efficiently and effectively plans, executes, and evaluates on-site and off-site Events and Promotions (ranging from 140 to 20,000+ guests) with the guest experience in mind for the purpose of driving attendance, increasing revenue and brand awareness for the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks.  This work would include but is not limited to organizing event details (venue, vendors, entertainment, food, supplies and decor), driving design direction for event collateral (print and digital), and managing communications with vendors/sponsors/guests and all internal departments.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with vendors and/or community partners.
  • Promotes events via advertising and works closely with the communications team to utilize variety of communication tools to publicize events including but not limited to providing work direction for graphic designs, social media posts, and website event descriptions.
  • Prepares/distributes event operations plans to internal departments to ensure awareness and request/finalize any departmental needs.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the complex individual needs of each event and promotion.
  • Ensures each event is kept on budget and revenue and expenses are accurately tracked.
  • Creates/manages evaluations (internal and external) of each event with budget efficiency, overall guest satisfaction, and gathered/suggested improvements to better/enhance future events.
  • Conducts market research on current event trends and possible opportunities to introduce to the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks.
  • Provides event reports as requested to the Director of Events and Promotions.
  • Provides interview support, work direction, and supervision to the Events and Promotions seasonal team.
  • Hosts events on weekends, weekdays, evenings, and holidays as necessary.
  • Functions as a strong team member of the Events and Promotions Department, as well as assisting in other areas as assigned.
  • Constantly strives to further the mission of the organization and avidly supports the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks.
  • Implements sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Undergraduate degree in business administration, marketing, communication, or related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • 2-3 years of special event planning experience preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with sometimes stressful situations required.
  • Ability to multitask and handle numerous events of varying sizes and styles at one time required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays required.
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing required.
  • Ability to plan and organize work with great attention to detail in an efficient and cost-effective manner and without direct supervision required.
  • Ability to provide excellent guest service by interacting with guests positively and upholding the Make it G.R.E.A.T. standards required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with all Columbus Zoo Family of Parks team members and contacts regarding company business required.
  • Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols required.
  • Possession of a valid state issued motor vehicle operator's license and a good driving record required.
  • Ability to adhere to the CZFP's drug-free workplace policy including but not limited to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and follow-up treatment required.
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually required.
  • Knowledge of CaterEase event planning and catering software, Social Tables event software, Accesso Passport reporting software preferred.
