Job Summary: The Event Associate performs various duties in support of events on campus.
Additional Department Summary: The West Alabama Cardiovascular Health (WACH) Program is designed to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease events (heart attacks and stroke) in a nine-county region of West Alabama.
This position will support the goals of the WACH program. They will promote wellness by helping people adopt healthy behaviors. They will implement programs and advocate for people who may have limited access to health resources and social services by working with Community Health Workers (CHWs). This position advocates for and promotes the voice and role of community health worker, the community, and in healthcare settings. They contribute to the development of the CHW role through training, teaching development opportunities, and assist to find and share resources, activities, and strategies for the health population they are working.
This position is a frontline liaison for the project coordinator, and other CHW workers, for assignments. This is achieved by increasing health knowledge, self-sufficiency, outreach, informal educational health counseling, and social support resource advocacy for those identified.
This position has strong ties to the community and are understanding of the needs found within. They engage in positive participation in health and wellbeing activities, and basic political understanding to encourage individual participants rights of healthcare and social services.
Additionally, they will assist the project coordinator with various basic office tasks and include making copies, preparing group and educational packages, networking events, disbursements and retrieval of CHW materials, and media relevance, and travel into nine surrounding counties.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience working with events.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Need reliable transportation and ability to travel to surrounding counties.
Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications: BS preferred, but not required. Experience as a community health worker or in patient care is preferred.
