The Opportunity

Under the direction of the Access Services & ILL Manager, theEvening Supervisor & Stacks Coordinatoris responsible for the overall operation and safety of Mann Library during evening hours, Sunday - Thursday, including closing and locking the building at night. For evening hours, the focus is to manage the help desk, with support from student assistants, and secure the building for the night. During summer and breaks, the focus is on collection maintenance projects and regular help desk shifts.


In the role ofEvening Supervisor & Stacks Coordinator,you will also:

  • Perform desk tasks: answering questions in-person, via phone, and email.
  • Provide guidance on website and services: interlibrary loan, Borrow Direct, course reserves, specialized equipment.
  • Offer basic technical support: computing, printing, AV equipment, and poster printing service.
  • Contribute to policy and procedure development.
  • Manage stacks student workers: hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating.
  • Coordinate workflows and provide assistance to help desk student workers.
  • Coordinate stacks maintenance activities with stacks assistant and student employees.
  • Communicate with Collection Development staff for item transfers or withdrawals.
  • Conduct thorough searches for missing materials and enhance collection accessibility.
  • Execute duties independently, including building closure and security enforcement.
  • Exercise judgment in decision-making, referrals, and follow-up actions.
  • Respond to facility damage emergencies and contact appropriate units or first responders.
  • Work in other unit libraries when coverage is needed, contributing to Access Services functions as listed above.

The Evening Supervisor & Stacks Coordinator is a full-time position. The typical schedule involves 30 hours/week in Mann Library, covering evening hours, Thursday - Sunday during the academic year. The additional 9 hours may rotate among several other libraries to provide coverage based on needs. Daily hours will start between 2:00PM and 5:00PM and will end between 10:30PM and 12:30AM. The schedule shifts with library operating hours and with ongoing needs.
