Valcourt Exterior Building Services is seeking an experienced estimator/Operations Manager to lead the continued growth of our commercial wood framing and siding business. All of our projects are large scale restoration, and we perform no new-build work. We service clients in the multi-family, condo, hospitality, healthcare and commercial markets. The ideal candidate must have extensive framing and siding experience as out work includes the removal and replacement of damaged wood members or correcting deficient design, and typically the re-waterproofing of the facade and installation of new siding/cladding. It is critical that the right candidate has extensive framing experience. We need an expert.
- Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents to prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information for estimating purposes.
- Conduct site visits to assess project scope, identify potential risks or challenges, and gather additional information as needed.
- Utilize estimating software and tools to perform quantity take-offs and generate detailed cost estimates.
- Prepare comprehensive bid proposals that outline the scope of work, materials, labor costs, and project timelines.
- Evaluate subcontractor bids and negotiate pricing to ensure competitive and cost-effective solutions.
- Monitor project costs throughout the construction process and provide regular updates to project teams.
- Participate in pre-construction meetings and provide input on value engineering options or alternative construction methods.
- Stay updated on industry trends, material costs, and labor rates to ensure accurate estimations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field preferred.
- Proven experience as an estimator in the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and techniques.
- Proficiency in using estimating software and tools (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift).
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Essential Functions
Ø Work closely with other estimators, business development managers, project managers, construction managers, engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on their understanding of the scope-of-work, changes, potential “requests for information” and adjustments to cost estimates prior to proposal
Ø Consult with clients, vendors, and construction team members to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve problems
Ø Coordinate efforts with project managers to develop work crews and production rates for performance of required tasks and the maintenance of the database of actual direct and indirect costs for comparison (i.e. comparison of estimates to “as performed” similar work)
Ø Familiar with the procurement of construction services, contract award and buy-out, authoring of RFI’s, AIA industry-standard documents and exhibits, and development of appropriate contract documents.
Ø Perform quantity takeoff surveys, attend pre-bid meetings, provide detailed information to senior estimators and other staff in finalizing estimates and proposals.
Ø Support and promote best practices for Valcourt’s safety program.
