Job description

Our Workplace Services department is seeking a Principal Facilities Engineer to join our growing team in the Worcester, MA area. This is a full time, non-exempt role.
Position Overview:
This position is expected to support the Team Lead in the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and efficient operation of all building systems and equipment. The Principal Engineer will take responsibility for coordinating the work of other Engineers on assigned requests / project for work, assigning priorities, delegating to appropriate engineering staff or contractors, if required, and following-up on completion of work. The Principal Engineer ensures that all personnel under his / her direction, both in-house and contracted, follow all applicable OSHA and Hanover safety guidelines. The Principal Engineer has a relatively high degree of system knowledge and uses advanced skills to perform complex preventive maintenance and corrective repair of at least one area such as buildings, industrial systems such as all HVAC, boiler, heating, refrigeration, water, and energy systems, vehicles, equipment and grounds to ensure the effective operation of the facility. The individual in this role must be available for call-in work and to perform other duties as required.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:

  • May provide input to manager related to manager's formal supervision of individual employees within single functional or operational area. Plans and monitors appropriate staffing levels and utilization of labor, including overtime as related to areas / projects they are overseeing.
  • Mentors and coaches team members to further develop competencies. Leads by example and models behaviors that are consistent with the company's values.
  • Oversees and inspects the work performed by engineering staff. Determines that work is complete, equipment is fully functional and space is in prime working condition.
  • As related to areas they oversee, monitors work of team and advises, corrects and retrains team members as necessary
  • Identifies training gaps and works with manager to incorporate training to close gaps Preventive maintenance
  • Consults with management to schedule preventive maintenance and other downtime to minimize business interruption and inconvenience
  • Supports and takes a lead role in the current preventive maintenance program as well as the formulation and implementation of new or additional preventive maintenance tasks to ensure that building machinery and systems meet or exceed their rated life

  • Ensure all policies, procedures and initiatives are fully supported and complied with

WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
  • Massachusetts Electrical Journeyman's License and Masters preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial Class A high rise building operations and maintenance
  • Thorough knowledge in multiple building systems operations, maintenance and repair
  • Experience in operation, maintenance and basic repair of one or more areas such as HVAC, boilers, heaters, pumps, refrigerant systems, compressors, gas lines, water systems, cooling towers, and the like
  • Knowledgeable in energy management systems, techniques and operations
  • Must have the ability to operate an EMS and CMMS system.
  • Basic to intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Decisions made with thorough understanding of procedures, company policies, and business practices to achieve general results and deadlines. Responsible for setting work unit and/or project deadlines.
  • Possess any permits or licenses required by law or code (e.g., refrigeration license, etc.)
  • Familiar with OSHA standards. Ability to investigate potential issues and identify safety best practices for assigned projects

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Work hours may include days and evenings on weekdays and weekends
  • Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 100lbs) 25-50% of time.
  • Ability to climb and work on ladders and scaffolds
  • Physical stamina and endurance.
  • Manual dexterity Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to repeatedly bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crawl, squat ETC. for extended periods of time (25%-75% of time).
  • Ability to climb to heights (e.g. ladder) and maintain balance for extended periods while performing work tasks.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools.
  • Ability to report to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform work tasks in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform work tasks in a loud/noisy work environment. May be exposed to a variety of chemicals.
